“No. That’s not true. That’s impossible!”
Reading this had me speechless for a second cause I was like wait a minute… This is literally Blizzard’s one-note story. They even did it the 2 times they wrote faction war in MoP and BfA… We get rid of X leader who is bad so the citizens are free.
So you’re definitely right and we are gonna end up killing the Arathi Emperor to free his people from his authoritarian rule.
Smartest post in the thread. Wish I could pin this.
I would say its too early to tell this is what will happen to the Arathi, if anything it might end up more like the Zandalari where we learn the Emperor isn’t corrupt and only his councillors are and we end up helping stop the plot to destroy the emperor(with the only difference being unlike Rastakhan, the Emperor lives)
That or we could get a moment where we find out that he is actually a really good ruler; he just hates us because for some reason.
This would require a level of writing talent (read: basic) that I believe may not be capable by Blizzard’s team. It happens all the time in the real world where groups band together due to strength in numbers, but different overall aims. But I doubt Blizzard can invoke any remote real world nuance.
If they could pull it off, that might work.
I don’t have a lot of faith in that. You’re right, the Zandalari basically avoided the Nightborne story because their Emperor wasn’t the villain. But he still died for the sins of his subordinates like Zul and the others.
If the Arathi Emperor is wise, and kind, and protective of his people, then the best way to cause chaos and tension and a need for heroes is to remove that sense of security from the plot by removing him.
It’s why you always kill the competent people first in a horror story. You don’t want the audience to feel that one of the characters will be able to fix the problem, you want the audience panicking because things keep getting worse, and all of the surviving characters are too scared to think critically or come up with a plan.
But if we get even a whiff of “The Emperor is sometimes… overzealous…” or a line like, “he cares about his people, he protects us… but it comes with a cost.” then expect the worst. Any sign he’s even remotely harsh or strict is a bad sign for his future health.
No worries there. Writing anything in a position of authority as competent is not part of this game’s canon.
While you have a point there are ways to do it. Eg, have the competent people overwhelmed by the threat. One example is the first Terminator movie, where the Terminator shoots up a police station to try and get Sarah Connor; the police were brave and competent, but outmatched because they didn’t know their “spree killer” was a super-strong, bulletproof robot disguised as a human.
ye i remember that:
Andwin: “I PROMISE you I will take back Teldrassil BEFORE the war is over”…
but th Alliance took Lordaeron instead… and then the peace without ally help in darkshore… that gives material for a very diserved insurrection of the Kaldorei and not giving any help ever again in the alliance’s wars… but i guess blizz loves to see elves not being happy for some reason…
What are people not getting? The Alliance didn’t got to Lordaeron for the sole reason of conquering it(albeit it was an anchillary reason). The main reason was 1) that was Sylvanas’ main base of operation and where she would be 2) With nearly all of the Alliance civilian population in the Eastern Kingdoms sans draenei, it would be imperative to defend and dislodge the Horde from EK.
And he did, with the war ending the Horde has effectively cease all hostiles from Darkshore/Ashenvale. Now its all a question of healing a burn tree which will likely take a while.
Yes because that is all the humans ever cared about. The blood elves learned this the hard way. They are awful allies in the end since they excpect elves to die for human lands.
Or you know the Alliance went there because Sylvanas was there, you know the one who perpetrated the genocide? If the night elves wanted vengence seems like the logical place to start and had she died the Horde war effort would grind to a halt.
