AFK Prevention Question

After I’m afk for a few minutes(if I have to walk downstairs for a little bit or something) I get disconnected for afk and have to restart wow a couple of times to get back on. If I have an app hit space bar for me every 10-15 minutes to simply jump and prevent AFK, is that against the rules/TOS(and not NOT in pvp/BGs)? Not for anything other than jumping mind you. Thank you for your input.

Yes, it’s against the rules.

Thank you! It’s annoying, but not annoying enough to get suspended over, so I wanted to check.

Yes that’s an anti afk bot

Yes its against rules because your taking a server slot that someone else can use to play the game.

No retail server has a queue time.

It’s considered automation. You can set yourself a timer to remind you to step in that room and hit the spacebar. Or just get used to logging in again.

You know i saw a video back in a day, this kid a fan that would spin and hit his space bar to jump

The AFK disconnect timer is pretty generous. If you’re away long enough to trigger it then maybe logout before you step away. That way you wont be disconnected by the game and whatever it does to your client to stop you logging in cleanly won’t happen.

We should never get kicked off because we pay $15 a month for the service

Yes but nobody is going to know if it’s a hardware not software thing

THREE YEARS LATER

…bruh. This topic was dead and should’ve stayed dead.

And why shouldn’t you get kicked off if you’re AFK for 30+ minutes in a row? You’re wasting resources (both yours and Blizzard’s) and space on the server for a player that might want to, get this, play the game they’re paying money to play. [Granted, the latter only really comes into play if you’re taking up space on a server that is Full and has a queue to log into…]

I thought topics were meant to automatically close after 6 months (and even that’s too long). Why can these necros even happen?

Because someone is too damn lazy to program the US forums to auto lock topics.
I just recently saw someone mention that the EU forums do in fact auto lock after a set amount of time. Don’t know if that’s true, but if it is then it really begs the question of why that’s not turned on over here, especially considering that on some of these topics that are well over a couple years old, one really has to go on a digging expedition to find the damn thing.

This thread needs AFK Prevention.

Heck I’ve seen threads on GameFAQS get auto-locked within 3 days. Not all of them, so it must be a sliding scale based on the popularity of the board, but there certainly aren’t any open topics whose last post was 3 years ago…

For clarification:

  • the WoW AFK timer is something around 15-20min before an AFK character gets logged out
  • using an automated tool that sends key or mouse inputs to the WoW client is botting and against ToS. It does not matter if it is for moving, fighting, fishing or just to prevent AFK, it is simply not allowed

Third party apps are not allowed, but cats are fine. Get a cat.

No surprise. The top m+ players doing high keys at night hours are all cats… :stuck_out_tongue:

Lately I find that if I step away from the computer for not very long (could be 15 min) my character doesn’t appear to be afk, but when I move my character, the screen freezes and only then am I logged out.
