Advise on how to enjoy the game without raiding

Hi all,

I’m a long time player dating back to 2007-era WoW. Fun to me in WoW has always been raiding. That has been my end goal for this game, up until the last couple of years. I’m coming back now - as I always do - after about a 2 month break and I got to thinking, how can I learn to enjoy the game without feeling the need to do end game raiding?

I just can’t do it anymore, I can’t do the time commitment and I don’t even have the desire anymore. But I’m not sure I know how to play any other way.

What advice would you give me to take it slower and enjoy the game for what it is, without feeling the need to min/max and get to end game right away?

Well I would say you could work on Loremaster, but it seems you already have it.

Maybe start collecting pets and doing pet battles?

But in general. you’re asking a question only you can really answer, because enjoyment is subjective.

Personally I think even though you’re limited on time you’d gain a lot from a community based guild. I don’t rp but I have had such a grand time on wyremrest where the server just feels so alive. There’s always people willing to do dungeons, warfronts, and even world pvp together.

Just try new things.

Pick out a few non-raid related achievements to go after.
Level an alt (maybe one of the new Allied Races).
Look up some collections (pets/mounts/toys) and get to collecting.
Try some BGs.
Do some old raids for TMog or pets/mounts.
When you get the “raid bug”, PuG something.

There really is no answer to “how to take things slower”. You just have to pick an activity, or several, and just do those. You will either find that there is a lot to enjoy about this game (much of which has nothing to do with “end game”) or you will find that you just like more “action” and slow just isn’t for you.

Either way, there is a vast world available in this game with a plethora of things to do.

Good luck to you! And Happy Gaming.

I got some of the allied races so I can start at level 20 to jump right into the game.
its kinda fun leveling up most of the classes, keeping me busy anyway since i dont bother with BfA anymore at this point.

Farming mats and mogs is fun on high level characters in old dungeons and raids.
Nothing more fun than running thru Throne of thunder even if you are overgeared like a god for it. I think its the absolute BEST raid in this entire game. Only one from WoD I can think of comes close.

The thing I love about WoW is there is soooo much to do that you could spend 10 years playing and still have missed a ton stuff to do.

Role playing is quite fun. You should check it out sometime. The RP on Moon Guard has kicked up considerably with folks Role Playing as Pirates and a completely new theme and setting with this expansion. If you decide to look into it, try using the add-on TRP3 (Total Role Play 3) on a RP realm. It works cross-realm too.

These are great answers, thank you! I was thinking of starting a new character, a mage, since that’s one class I’ve never really played.

Hey Nerfessa. It’s good to see a fellow player from that same era. I started around 2006. I’ve always enjoyed raiding myself. What I do nowadays is form my own raids using the built in LFG system. And with the proper use of Raider IO I can pick players who seemingly understand both their role and the content. This usually makes for a good time. Time commitment is a big thing, especially nowadays. Forming your own raids means you get to dictate what you do and in what kind of time frame. You’re no longer having to answer to a Guild or Raid Master, which is helpful for a lot of people. I hope I helped you in some way, good luck to you. /moo

Farm old raids/dungeons for transmog, mounts, pets, gold.
Level a new toon with only quest gear and no gold on a new server. I do that sometimes.

Great idea, thank you. I always get excited to get back into raiding but after a few weeks of doing the same thing at the same time each week, it begins to feel like a job… maybe you’re right and I need to start living that pug life. Lol.

just quit you’re doomed

I also found, since 8.1 launched, that leveling alts is very fun and effective. Soon I’ll have a Maghar Orc Outlaw Rogue caught up and in BFA content. Who knows, it may even be my new main. It’s been a tremendous amount of fun. /clap

I heard leveling was improved in 8.1, I quit before that patch dropped. In 8.0 leveling was terrible and I gave up trying to make any alts at that time…

Try it, Nerfessa. I’m confident that you’ll enjoy it - at least exponentially more than you did before 8.1. The XP nerf has been fantastic in my estimation.

To be honest, I’m just going to offer suggestions w/o looking at your cheeves since that’s always wonky on my phone and I’m at work. I’ve pmuch done all of these so yknow xD:

Glory of the dungeon/raider cheeves for previous expacs. Who hates more mounts and cheeve points?!?? Woot!

Find a favorite profession and collect every recipe/plan/whatever possible. Mine is engineering and I’ve got something like 96% of all recipes and I’m working on the mounts as well. I mean this goes along the toy/pet collections thing so yknow. That stuff.

Collect transmog, because no matter what the expac, transmog is the true endgame. Kind of a running joke in my mythic raid team is “Yo, I’m just here for the xmog man. If I get CE along the way, cool.” or “So wait, rolls are xmog > MS > OS right?” Lol. Even if you don’t try for 100% completion, just going for past sets you like is worth.

Just… Decide to do it on your relevant account if you do it and have more than one account >.< Ugh, it hurts.

Collect transmogs from old raids, dungeons, crafting, and outdoor areas. Collect battle pets and gain the Zookeeper title. Safari of azeroth is the achievement you need.
