I think it goes without saying that this “War on Addons” has been quite the experience for basically everyone involved. Some good ideas, some bad ideas, the whole thing as a big picture being an ok change to the game… if it was finished.
We saw in beta the state of play. We heard the voices of streamers, raiders, professional players, regular players, and even the casual crowd. Everyone knew the overhaul was not going to be a successful transition. Then launch happened… and things went basically as people expected. Bad.
Now replacing 15+ years of work, R&D, and figuring out the code so Blizzard never had to was not going to just go smoothly. Thats an impossible task to ask the Devs on the back end. They would have needed years of work and prep for this that we would have seen tiny bits of in the foreground as they silently test.
Obviously the need for change came swiftly as healers began to suffer the most, and private auras for things such as debuffs to dispel were causing massive pain points. This brings me to my point of topic.
Private auras.
They need to go. Not forever. For now. Just for the time being while Blizzard actually builds the structure to replace some 15+ years of addon making because its very clear that we are still in the early stages of construction in for that process. Rolling this back will alleviate pain that is being brought to players, the same pain that loses casual players over time.
Thank you for coming to my WoW Ted Talk.
