Additional Tank specs

Yep, I concur. I love playing Prot Spec. But the pressure from pugs is insane. I always queue as DPS on my Pally as tanking is less enjoyable

This isn’t true. There are already 6 classes that have a tank spec out of the 12. And i’m guessing the classes that picked their classes didn’t pick them to tank… else they would have picked a class that can tank…

Adding a “tank spec” to clothies, mail wearers, and rogues would simply be more classes Blizzard has to balance for basically no one from that class choosing to go tank.

I’ve always liked the idea of a Rogue tank who uses dodge skills to build threat - ie, the mobs get so angry that they can’t hit this little rogue.

In Everquest, we had Monk tanks who would tank based on this. Evasion tanking.

No, we wouldn’t. Half the classes in the game can be tanks, yet there is still a demand. There are a few reasons for this.

  1. Queueable content can be outgeared without even queueing.
  2. Pugs are unreliable and sometimes rude.
  3. People like running with guildees and as a result don’t bother pugging.

Those are 3 of the reasons there is a tank shortage. Lack of classes that have a tank spec is not an issue.

This right here is a perfecr example of why tacking on tank specs to existing classes, and adding more classes that can tank (or heal) will literally never solve the shortage of tanks and/or healers.

The people that want to fill those roles are already doing it. The rest are DPS.

The realistic solution would be for more DPS players to bite the bullet and use the tank specs we have. The only thing the developers can realistically do is stuff more DPS in the average party - but I pity the tanks and healers that would be dealing with those larger miniature raid sized parties that would be required to balance it out.

I mean, do you have anything to support your theory that people who play a non-tank class wouldn’t choose to spec tank while doing dungeons for faster queue times?

It’s worth Blizzard doing a survey and exploring.

The lack of tank specs isn’t the issue, if people want to tank they’ll play a class that can tank. The issue is a community one that can’t be solved by cobbling together new specs for Blizz to balance

Sure, that could happen, but once again, that goes back to point 1. Queueable content can easily be outgeared without queueing. Emissaries, warfronts, some weekly event quests, and AOO give way better gear than lfr/heroic dungeons.

ah…I see what youre saying.
yeah…I admit, Im pretty much running shaman right now…no tank spec…IF I had a tank spec I actually might just sign up as tank here and there, whereas now its not even an option.

Maybe it would help a little. Obviously wouldnt be any real downside unless they really bombed at making the spec. So who knows. Blizzards modus operandi motto seems to be 'Half Rumping it is our middle name"

Not sure what that has to do with anything.

I just want to add a small addendum here: another thing that isn’t being considered is Blizzard probably isn’t just going to tack on a whole other spec and magic up another tanking format. So picking on rogues a bit - after the fallout from the last rogue overhaul, if Blizzard decides for some odd reason Assassination is now the rogue tanking tree - someone is liable to literally get Assassinated by an irate rogue player.

Incentive to queue. If people aren’t going to do queueable content, they won’t sign up for it, even as a tank.

Dunno, I’d love to be able to tank on my hunter or mage. I have tank classes. I don’t play a class for the role usually, I play the class because I like that class. I imagine there are a number of people like me who would gladly take on a different role as long as they can be in the class they like.

I agree, but I think their reasoning is IF those players who are playing DPS classes because they enjoy them had the option to run them as tank, they might actually tank here and there and give some relief.
Like my brother in law plays mage pretty much exclusively. He wont change classes to tank…BUT if his class had a tank spec he might just be willing to tank, knowing his personality.
It might help to some degree.
I know if shaman had a tank spec…and Id didnt detest bad DPS players to the degree I have come to, that Id run shaman tank a quite a bit.

I like to tank for pugs. People are never blanky to me beceause im not blank.

If you’re a garbage tank you’ll be treated as such.

Gimme warlock tanking. I wanna be an edgelord tank without being a demon hunter.

Think it through a bit more. We already have this, with the classes capable of being tanks.

So now think it through more and notice there is still a tank shortage. So what makes you think giving a hunter a tank spec is going to change anything? There are multiple classes with tank specs, yet they still won’t tank because people DON’T want to tank.

and if youre garbage DPS you’ll be kicked.

Thats the way it works! Indeed!

Or if you’re pandaren…

See my post above. I think all theyre really saying is that IF a mage player has the option to tank because he has the spec, that he might be willing to tank here and there. If he loves mage and hates all the current classes with tank specs, hes not likely to change classes to plays one he doesnt like…but if HIS has a tank spec that opens it up for possibility, at least.
