Adding a "Support Role" would be terrible for wow

A bard like role would be neat in wow but I dont think it’d fit in well with how wow handles its endgame.

I just imagine it becoming a spec for shaman or a druid or something like that

I’m not saying import Bard. I’m talking gameplay, specifically.

In-game description of EQ’s Shaman:

Shamans serve as priests to the tribal races of Norrath, able to draw upon the power of the spirits and focus it for their own purposes. Shamans are primarily a magic-using class, able to wear chain armor and wield blunt weapons and spears.

Shamanic magic has two main focuses-- enhancing the mind and body of the shaman’s allies, and weakening or damaging their enemies. A shaman’s enhancement spells are always in demand, massively improving the strength, stamina, health, and other physical aspects of the shaman’s group. Shamans also are able to heal their allies and have excellent health regeneration spells.

The weakening and damaging spells in the shaman’s arsenal are tremendously effective in battle. The shaman attacks his enemies with diseases and poisons that cause massive damage over time, while using cold and ice magic to inflict damage directly. A brutal line of crippling spells can slow a monster’s attacks, hamper their resistance to spells, and lower their physical prowess.

Shamans are a well-rounded class with strong abilities in both group and solo situations. An experienced shaman can turn the tide of any battle, bolstering their allies while weakening their enemies significantly. The shaman is an excellent class who enjoy working in groups.

I would love to see a modern take on the concept.

I don’t think WoW is ever going to make a change as sweeping as this would require in the remainder of its lifetime, however. They’re not willing to reinvent themselves at this stage.

I have to agree with Microphone given past disc. encounters in dungeons.

Healers is basically support already.

Healers are healers. They are no more support than tanks or damage dealers are.

Supports are support.

Then what is a disciple priest? Not exactly a pure dps nor a pure healer class?

It’s a hybrid (as are most, if not all, classes in WoW to some degree). Shields are just a form of healing. Healing via damage is performing two roles, which constitutes a hybrid playstyle.

Power Infusion is support. Power Word: Fortitude is support. Mass Dispel is support. But the class isn’t built around providing those benefits, primarily. And every class in WoW has some form of support, since the role has been dispersed to everyone instead of being confined to dedicated specs.

I see you didn’t know and had to look it up,disciple priest played support for a long time and is only now getting SOME recognition as a healer class but still has a long way for being one.

I’ll let my top healer know that he isn’t actually a healer according to some guy on the forums, I suppose. The only arguable support classes in the history of WoW were Shaman and Paladin.

LoL,if they change Wow’s history ok.

Healers support with damage or healing or dispells. Applying buffs would fit healers best since its indirectly just increasing damage/healing/survivability.

It’s like you can go for buffing allies (damage) or doing it directly. Supports/healers might as well be the same role.

Damage supports with doing damage or buffing or interrupts.

Tanks support by diverting damage and dealing damage and taunting.

You’re diluting the term to its most literal dictionary definition when it has a specific definition in the RPG world.

It could also 100% not be.

Oh yeah fair point. Guess we’ll have to see!

It would be rather odd phrasing for a tank.

A support spec is pretty much unbelievable given Blizzard’s track record with the role, but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…

Cackles and rubs her hands together evily.

I just… can’t see it. If they reintroduce support specs, what happens to the specs that used to be support? And aren’t healers the real support specs?

Adding a buff/debuff type spec just wouldn’t fit WoW. Unless they want to make a “just for fun” blue-mage type spec, one that’s not built for end game. Maybe. Idk.

Adding a support role would shake up the game enough to actually make it interesting again… especially if they started support roles to other existing classes.

New Support Specs:
Demon Hunters - Rune Master
Mages - Chronomages
Warriors - Battle Bards
Druids - Spirit Warden
Rogue - Alchemist

You missed the two classes that were actual support classes at launch. Shamans and Paladins.
