Adding a "Support Role" would be terrible for wow

Support could work here…if not for player expectations.

Some are saying healers are support. in some mmo’s, healerz don’t dps. Like ever. Eve is like that with logistics. They repair ships. That’s it.

The trade off for no dps is they “heal” really well and never run out of cap really. They never go OOM damn near healing 100% of the time for long stretches of time.

CC based support is usually not there to dps either. Eve cc support is based around the concept of they limit incoming dps. And are really good at it. tradeoff is the lack in dps usually. You cc, your fleet mates kill what you cc. This is usually the way.

Sometimes you don’t have to kill targets. You jsut have to limit their ability to kill your people basically.

While I prefer the good old days of ecm jamming, even in the newer system a ship called the falcon does one thing well. It ties 2+ people up. They cannot target what they want.

Even in pvp its like a taunt. You may want to kill my fleet mate way more. But until I am dead, or you roll a good number on next cycle of my jammers, I am your only possible target.

And I don’t make it easy to kill me. Now that ship is crap for damage, if even fit for it. I really exist to jam sensors for as long as possible till I am dead. Or my fleetmates kill what I am jamming. The latter is preferred there, obviously lol.

other side kills you much less, you kill them more…win happens.

Damage not coming in…is damage your people don’t have to tank. and damage your healerz don’t have to heal.

Wow’s players tend to not have this mindset. Your meters looking kind of low, dude. that’s a wow thing based on player preference.

see in eve a properly run logistics you don’t even know they are there till the end lol. Did we lose anybody? Not really…

Logicstics pilot(s)…you are bad wording awesome. Noting this applies to eve’s higher level pve and not jsut pvp.

I can imagine a new 8-man megadungeon mode.

1 tank
1 healer
1 “support”
5 dps

Rework discipline and some other redundant specs into supports.

Looking forward to playing a Support Priest with pre-Legion style Atonement.

I fancy the idea of Blizzard adding a fourth role to the game, or opening up more than one role to other classes like Mages, Rogues, Warlocks and Hunters. Tinkers and Bards could be new additions to include a support role, as will Priest and Evoker.

Adding a Support Role wouldn’t be that much of a hassle in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly my idea, perhaps bring back 10 man raiding(Or make it into that 8 man mega dungeon idea) while we are at it.

(looks at every other major MMORPG)
It would appear that this theory is not supported by the preponderance of the evidence at this time.

All they have to do is balance the class’s personal DPS while performing it’s support abilities lower so that it’s contribution in a group of 5 averages out to what it would be in the event of a standard group without a support.

There, I solved the problem simply in a 1 sentence paragraph. May I have a cookie now?

The exciting part is that if there IS a support spec coming, we might get support specs for other classes as well. I could see a DH support working out much more thematically than a DH healer for example, and you could finally hybridize the triple DPS specs so they have a second option.

I think you’re out of your mind if you think what you described would actually work. Unless you think Blizzard is a bunch of complete morons, class balance would be a lot better if it were anywhere near as easy as you would have us believe.

I do indeed think what I wrote.

I think you’re right about the first part, as evidenced by the second.

If all the games that imitated WoW can make the support role work without a hitch, I’m sure the source can manage as well.

Or you could just go play one of those other games instead of ruining wow with this nonsense.

Yeah, everyone knows that TBC and WOTLK, clearly the least popular and most unsuccessful period of WoW’s history was basically ruined by Shamans and Paladins running around with their totems and blessings…

I think you think there haven’t been support roles since Vanilla.

Heard of Paladins and Shamen?

Never intended to be primary Healers or DPS

They were buff classes that bolstered the power of the rest of the group with totems and auras.

I wouldn’t shout fire, yet.

Shamans and Paladins are not, and were not, a “Support Role.”

Having utility spells != “Support Role”

You’re fundamentally misunderstanding what we’re talking about here.

Seriously, CAN we wait and see what they do before we decide it won’t work?

Do I have to take photos of the original boxes the game came in and show you how wrong you are?

You’re talking about the 3rd “mystery spec” for the Dracthyr.

Yeah?
What a strange and confusing take on the two support classes from WoW.

“Weave the totems and keep up the debuff from Nightfall”
and
“Try to do something usefull when your not recasting blessings and judgements”
Come to mind as the two prostrats.

Sure, do it.

I really don’t get why you think that the game should go back in time to such terrible design in the first place. Literally everything about wow today is better than when reaid tiers were an afterthought designed in an afternoon.

Vanilla was an objectively worse game.

This will not work in modern wow.

Funny, you just said that wasn’t the design from back then.

It’s almost like you’re just using a level 10 alt to make unsupported and outright wrong statements over and over to egg people on while contradicting yourself because you cant even keep that right

Indeed. They were support classes because of their support abilities that indirectly and significantly increased the capability for other roles to perform.

I will when I can.

In the meantime, my hot take on the 3rd spec is basically they are going to make a “Disc Priest” version of Dracthyr.

Not tanks.

Priest has 2 healing speces currently and 1 dps spec.

I’m thinking we are just going to get a “shield spec” for Dracthyr
