Adding a "Support Role" would be terrible for wow

A lot more of an issue than just adding a fresh one that’s built exactly for what they want instead of taking away one people have come to enjoy.

Support role has always been healer in Blizzard games. They 2 words are interchangeable.

I have never really understood people who want WoW to become FF. Like, if you want to play FF, go play FF. I don’t, so I play WoW.

You do realize I was trashing FFXIV, yes?

no, not really…

You’re simply proving my point that the limited perspective of only having played WoW limits your imagination regarding what is possible in the genre.

And you like it like that.

But yeah, FFXIV’s support classes are barely as effective as WoW’s support classes were at launch. It’s not design that they should seek to copy. But it is likely that they will, as it is the easiest and least disruptive route.

oh yeah? like what?

what are modern mmo’s doing so well that they can’t last longer than 5 years?

WoW should def learn from those alright…

You aren’t even engaging in the discussion. You were triggered by the mention of FFXIV and are regurgitating completely unrelated soundbytes.

that’s what i thought… :100:

Again, I’m saying that WoW shouldn’t copy FFXIV in this case. In what you originally responded to. Their support design is trash. But you weren’t actually responding to that. You just saw FFXIV and went to your bank of “press in case of FFXIV” canned responses.

If you’d like to have a discussion involving original thoughts, I’ll be glad to continue. If not, your FFXIV-allergic ego is free to have the last word if it so requires.

all i said was that you’re a ff andy arguing semantics…which is true?

weren’t you still arguing about the healer vs support definition? :eyes:

anyway, i remember reading that final fantasy wanted to add mythic+ to their game…maybe a year or so ago. if that’s true, i bet the role will be heavily influenced by WoW for sure. (“healers” being expected to do dmg as well as pass healing checks, use all utility in their kit, etc.) :100:

I think you forgot that priest disciple has some of that, it can be a healer, but it actually ends up being a support.

I don’t know what Blizzard would be doing, it had 2 BG’s in making MOBAS and it failed, now incorporating more into the pve and in the use of raids and dungeons, it doesn’t seem like the positive thing I see, worse for a class that I only see another priest in mail armor .

what a Cringe disappointment.

I would love a support spec, its something ive always wanted to play. As much as ive dreamed about playing one in wow, im afraid to get my hopes up.

I did play during the totem twisting and buff bot days. You got to add feral druids to this list. They were innervate buddies for healers and designated tea baggers of people that died.

Closest i got to a support class was Shadowlands -Priest
Heals gave 5% haste
PI
Cooldown reduction for offensive abilites (to one player)
Cooldown reduction for defensive abilites (raid wide)
And a couple trinkets that could buff allies.

Before that… Vanillia when i was the token disc (holy/disc) so i could bring spirit buff to the raid.

We have had abilities in the game that focused on supporting others without breaking the game. Adding more stuff like the above and tagging it onto a dps class isnt as game breaking as people think.

Monks are the only class that brings a physical damage increase to raids, DH are the only ones bringing a magical damage increase to raid groups. The concept of debuffing enemies to make us hit harder, concept of making allies stronger already exists in game, just follow the same patteren and attach it to a single class. Dont have to think outside the box on how to impliment it in game.

Oh,
Why does everyone call disc a support and not a healer?

Disc spent most of this games life as a healer with no attachment to damage. Damage mitigation was originally the core of the spec. Smite used to reduce the bosses next damage attack as an example and tied to its shields help reduce the amount of damage intake the raid took.

Siege of Orgimar-Garrosh Hellscream H25 was solo healed by a disc who rotated spirit shell and other damage mitigation abilities to keep the entire raid going. Even through the secret end phase (high damage phase).

The reason its now attonment and no longer a bubble bot was anger from other healers who got mad. Shields reduced damage so they would heal less

I think wow needs more soccer competition in it. Now, don’t let your limited perspective of not playing FIFA limit your imagination and encourage you to not want this very dumb idea I just had from being implemented

It could add to the group the same amount of dps as another dps would and then it would be like having another dps.

I see no problem here
