Addiction Awareness

Lol no there won’t be.

Additionally as I said. The reasons for addiction aren’t going away. If people didn’t play games they’d go do opiods (hence the crisis). In my books gaming>>opiods.

I feel like you have had a negative experience so you’re way to heavily blanketing everyone  first world problems though. You should go talk to someone who got addicted to methanphetamines and compare who had it worse.

True, but it is their fault they didn’t put a warning on that lawnmower telling you that trying to use it to do things it wasn’t meant for could lead to injury/property damage, etc. Liability wise it is likely better just to slap warnings on everything so someone doesn’t decide to sue them later due to mis-handling of the product in question.

Hmm well i know plenty of people who were hooked on dope. They do play video games. As far as leading productive lifestyles tho…few if any of them do. But at least they are off drugs right? They game all night, get up at 3pm go to work, come home at 11, game til 6am, then get up at 2pm and go work at 3. Its just work game rinse and repeat. Thats not a life. Thats using gaming as a means to replace drugs which, albeit not life threatening, is in no way a good, productive life. Of course thats not blizzards fault. The group Game Quitters and Respawn are trying to help people, who probably have come off drugs and have replaced the dope addiction with a gaming addiction. its not life threatening, but its definitely not good. You may think its fine to stay inside forever, but its not.

I’d say yes, that’s one less unecessary person in front of me at the store checking their lottery tickets or writing checks in the express lane

One less unnecessary person driving below the speed limit in the left hand lane holding up traffic

One less unnecessary person holding up the drive thru because they cant be bothered to have the slightest clue of what to order.

One less unnecessary person throwing trash in a national park on the ground, or clogging up a nice vista angling selfie sticks and then immediately posting it all over social media instead of enjoying the solitude.

I could go on much longer, but in short, people living hermetic lives is a great thing…for me.

Didn’t say it was good?

It’s a relative though. Is your physical health going to deteriorate from gaming? Yup. Is it going to physically kill you one day because your stuff was laced with something? Is it going to kill you one night because you accidentally consumed too much? Is it illegal and you’ll go to jail and have a criminal record for using? Are you going to deal with criminals who will kill you and your family if you don’t pay them?

It’s all relative man and gaming >>>>>>>>>> dope. It’s not even comparable.

Additionally addiction isn’t the issue in either case. It’s the symptom. Instead of addressing the symptom you need to address the issues. Loneliness, lack of self worth. None of these are caused by addiction, they cause addiction.

New issues we have to face with social media and the way kids grow up these days.

I guarantee you gaming isn’t the problem sir.

Besides mythic races or extreme leveling does anyone play for more than 24 hours straight anymore?

You are correct, that mower as a hedger example actually happened. And the idiot tried to sue.
It’s very sad, what our society has become. No personal responsibility, it’s always someone else’s fault. Or citing what others have done wrong as justification for someone else doing the same thing.
You know what dies because of this trend? Trust does, how can you trust anyone who will flip at the drop of a hat?

People. PEOPLE! Read the sign…

Don’t feed the troll…

Personally responsible.

If you are under 16, then some falls on parental responsibility.

Addiction is nothing new. Just more options. Be smart, get informed.

as someoen who actually was sent to ER (sever dehydration that resulted in an IV) during vanilla when the game was WOWcrack This is not a Blizzard (or nay other gaming company) problem.

They make a game. Blizzard even TELLS players to take breaks in their tips between loading screens.

A players choice to play extremely long is their choice. Can’t blame it on others.

and if they are a minor the parent should do betetr parenting if their kids grades dropped.

I still think as a business, blizzard should want to take care of their consumers. This isnt about corporate greed. Blizzard should be out there advocating in favor of addiction awareness. Its a real problem, not just in blizzards games, but all video games. I simply play blizzard games so thats why im here, but id still be saying the same thing on an ea forum. I think companies have a responsibility to look out for their consumers in as many ways as they can. Sure they cant make an addict stop playing, but they can inform the public that video gaming can be bad for your health if you dont take it in moderation through advertising or seminars or public forums. Of course, at the end of the day a person is solely responsible for their own health and well-being, but blizzard can provide meaningful ways to seek help or curb gaming addiction for those that really need it. I think blizzard can do something more to help those who suffer. Im not saying they need to bombard people with messages. Simply providing a way out, through Game Quitters or sponsoring a gaming addiction hotline or w.e would make their image seem more genuine and wholesome on a humane level.

Are you suggesting that I, Carissaria, self proclaimed Queen of the Wilds, is addicted to playing with my sweet little animals? Oh you poor child, it is so much deeper than an addiction.

Don’t be so sad, I have fresh orc bones for you!

In all seriousness though, it is problem. So thank you for spreading awareness about it, though I can assure you that I spend more time here than in the game

I sympathize with this, but I have some unfortunate things to tell you about capitalism.

Must be the reason Blizzard added Azerite to the game.

They didn’t want their fanbase to be addicted to the game.

Once again dude.

Gaming>>>>>dope.

Once again dude. Stop focusing so much of your efforts on the symptom and more time on the cause. Games don’t cause people to become addicted to opiods.

I have an idea. Stop posting here or playing video games at all and go do some research on how to solve the actual opiod crisis. If you fix that you’d probably fix gaming addiction too.

This isn’t really blizzard’s place as a company. Gaming addiction, like any other addiction, is something that needs to be addressed on a personal level through counseling and support groups. I think the loading screen tip gets the point across; anything more would be heavy-handed and intrusive. It’s not really Blizzard’s job to micromanage the tendencies of the playerbase.

It can be. Just like budweiser can advocate against drunk driving or alcohol abuse. Thats what addiction is though, its something you do compulsively almost without thinking. How can a person be expected to react and take action if they keep finding themselves doing the activity compulsively with no other way to tackle the addiction without an outside entity throwing some advice their way. It doesnt have to be intrusive. Just a little blurb at the top of their webpage or something about suffering from gaming addiction. It doesnt need to be an email/ personal message. Simply giving people a way out or some knowledge is better than nothing at all.

For the most part I think the population of players are adults…I don’t think we need a company telling us “hey you’ve been playing too long how about you get up?” Mind yo damn bidness!

If players aren’t adults then parents/legal guardians can do their job and take care of the child.

Don’t need the company to do it for us/them (parents/legal guardian)

Side note: guild wars 1 did this at the 2 hours mark and repeated itself every hour saying how long you’ve been playing and it’s time for a break lol I think my personal best was 15 hours :muscle:t2:
