It’s been done before, and while it’s extremely effective at getting tanks bank into pugging DPS for some reason get wildly offended by it.
They could do something like make an achievement for tanking 5000 Heroic Instances during TBC Anniversary, where you get an in-game Tank mount, and a title “the Tank.”
Who knows if that would get anybody tanking instances, but it’d be something.

Don’t know about a mount but satchels with good rewards would.
Oh with good rewards? Yeah, probably. Like when they first introduced them with the random dungeon finder tank queue, and they had a chance at a rare mount?
My incentive is to act upon the tenets of the Paladin class. I haven’t gotten to the quest text that tells me what those are yet but it’ll probably be something like justice or something.
Yep. 334 straight days doing every single heroic for a mount.

Clearly dungeons aren’t fun for tanks so that doesn’t work
its funny that people suggest to add incentives for tanks and then are some of the same people that try and get tanks who charge for their services banned.

Adding material incentives is a great idea. It doesn’t change the balance of the game, threat management stays the same, spells and abilities stay the same.
But Blizzard literally doesn’t want to spend coding hours on Classic more than absolutely necessary, so…
Um, that’s completely different. Blizzard generating gold out of thin air to pay the tanks is not at all similar to players paying gold that they’ve made spending time farming it.
It sort of is, because if Blizzard does generate gold out of thin air, it adds to the overall amount of gold, which decreases the value of everybody’s gold. So not directly the same, and it doesn’t directly (and only) cost the people who benefit from it, it costs everybody.
Their incentive is they get to run the dungeon

I like how the answer to this never seems to be for the people complaining about no tanks to roll a tank of their own. Honestly, why don’t you try tanking?

Oh you just pulled time to seed, oh thats a nice looking sheep let me shoot it. Oh your trying to LoS the caster let me attack it in the middle of the room and keep it there.
