What did you expect at this point? They borked retail and now they’re out for the rest of us. I’m sure they’re trying for full steam because retail users are dropping like flies lmao. I just wanna make it WOTLK before this game implodes.
Will not waste my time on wrath, and strongly considering to skip TBC now.
Nothing like milking their side game to keep their main game afloat. In some industries this would be a scam.
Meanwhile I open up the wallet and start dipping into my savings…
I think sad is probably the most appropriate word. In my 40s now I think back to a time when Blizzard was the video game developer. To end up like this…
I’ve said this before and i’ll say it again, for the millionth time. Arena’s killed WoW. When Arena’s came out, their entire development focus shifted into esports and they destroyed their game in order to try and make arena’s into a big esporting event. Everything secretly revolved around balancing arena’s and PvE suffered immensely due to arena design/balance decisions.
The game should have never, ever had Arena’s added. World of Warcraft was about War and the constant struggle between the Alliance and Horde on a massive scale while simultaneously battling to save themselves from outside forces.
Blizzard turned the entire game into a focus of 3v3 in a tiny little box and designed the entire game around it after they came out to try and suite their drive for esports, which failed SPECTACULARLY. They took the most popular online mmo and destroyed it by taking it in a direction a TINY FRACTION of the player base “enjoyed”. An EXTREMELY tiny, VERY MINUTE fraction.
You know what people loved? TM/Hillsbrad back and forth. The game truly died the day they cooked up the crack pot idea of Arena’s and turning the game into an esport.
Back when it was Old Blizzard, I always considered them the “gold standard” of gaming along with Nintendo. It’s sad but it happens, especially in gaming
Play classic a bit and you will quickly see how much these classes were built around PVP.
All that CC the classes have that cant really be used in PVE,
All those odd spells that don’t make sense for PVE but some how magically work out great in PVP.
All those mechanics developed that don’t work out in PVE but work spectacularly in PVP.
As for “Arena is a mistake” the only mistake was how they focused on balancing only on 3’s with Season 5 because DK’s broke the game.
The game SHOULD have been balanced a lot closer for 2vs2 and that would translate well into BG’s and world PVP, but they goofed.
Another mistake they made was to balance for “Raid” in terms of DPS and the whole wrath era Bring the Player not the class that turned out like crap.
Its not arena that killed WoW, Arena may have actually helped TBC a ton, but its impossible to know without changing history.
Arena could have been done better, but that’s easy to see looking back, so could Class balance, but hey its a 13 year gold game, what can we say they did good for thetime.
See y’all in Classic Wod
After WoTLK Classic there won’t be a WoW.
Guaranteed
This is not the case at all.
In classic WoW, when it first came out, you had to CC mobs or you wiped. That is what CC was for. You clearly did not play WoW when it just came out. I did, i have the collectors edition as proof.
Vanilla sure, but not in the same way or frequency as PvP.
I was talking more about end game PvE than dungeons that are honestly a lot better than the raids in classic.
To be honest, the biggest mistake in WoW was raids.
Thats because no one knew what they had… or understood their gear. That and terrible connections.
100%, Luckily you can spend only $15/month and still get TBC access while denying them the cash they’re working to squeeze. Make them look bad, and it won’t continue.
I hope most people don’t buy anything but the WoW subscription. It’s a shame there are so many gullible whales who’d pay $105 for a mount and to have your character sold back to you.
If you’re going to pay the $35 for the copy, know that you’re paying $35 to a scummy company for the right to play on servers that now are going to be extra dead. It should be free. Framing it like it’s a meaningful choice to choose TBC or Vanilla is such a paper thin attempt at legitimizing this egregious BS.
Also, seeing hundreds of people on this mount really cheapens the value of it, why would you blow $70 on it?
Very astute. Let me tack on that most people in charge of video game companies do not play video games, and do not understand video games. What they understand is profit margins, top-line and bottom-line sales, and marketing. In fact, to them, they can make money on something going out of business, and can easily move to managing some other business. Layoffs only affect staff.
Precisely. If management thinks it’s a dying animal of a game anyways what does it matter if they hasten if by squeezing twice as hard for twice as much profit? And if it isn’t maybe they figure WoW players for helpless addicts that they can give less and less to after gutting the amount of content to be delivered after bottoming out on cuts to customer service. Activision is a huge company, if WoW is choked to death they can move the money and devs to other games, maybe mobile stuff that makes 5 times the profits per dollar invested.
Also let me tact on another thing in regards to my earlier post. I mentioned by WotLK I think they’d have store mounts. They could actually go a different direction and rather than insert new mounts they could start selling pay for loot type stuff and see that as compromise. For example if you want the Time Lost Proto Drake? Or how about the rare polar bear mount from the daily quests in the Vrykul women village in Storm Peaks? You can have it, just $20 in the store for your wrath classic account. Wrath after all added the first store mount in patch 3.3.3.
If it gets bad enough I wouldn’t be surprised if they went full f2p and added a lot more cash shop stuff for classic realms, maybe beyond mere vanity to useful items.
And now they’re doing the same thing but with one niche part of PvE content. Who wants to watch a bunch of people try and beat a clock in a series of mythic dungeon runs? Yet they push that stuff HARD and it’s obvious the game is designed around it. It’s why they don’t care about complaints from anyone who does anything other than this specific want or maybe mythic raiding, because those are the sole focuses, they have this fantasy that they’re somehow going to make it, become a streaming thing like Fortnite and meanwhile they’re alienating and driving off their player-base with this single-minded obsession.
Things are definitely not looking great for Blizzard!
Call of Duty alone makes 36% of Blizzard Activision’s revenue, and their mobile games segment also made more than the Blizzard IPs.
And sure they are planning to hire more developers but from what I can read the developers will vastly be on CoD content.
As said above, no new IP from Blizzard in 5 years. Diablo 4 is coming but so is path of exile 2 and PoE 2 seems to make everything right. And overwatch 2 … well it’s number 1 designer has just left so it doesn’t bode well either.
Honestly, Activision is fine but Blizzard doesn’t look so well.
Omg, is this the end of the world? Nah, just a Sunday thread.
Not sure! would probably prefer 2022 anyhow since TBC will run into 2022.
