I was sitting here reading some of the threads about botters and the feedback from players and a thought crossed my mind, figured I’d share it.
I am not a game programmer and I have no idea if the thought I am about to share is feasible, possible, or otherwise.
It seems to me that most of the tactics being employed are internal ones. Botters use 3rd party software, correct?
Blizz, if you have staff working day and night on botters, perhaps it would be good to look at the software botters use (there must be preferred programs) and see if there are changes OUTSIDE the game system that could be made to prevent this 3rd party software from communicating with the game system?
Again, no expert here. It was an “out of the box” idea that crossed my mind.
I wish you continued success in eliminating the bot scourge!

Multi boxing is not botting, the program used does not automate the game play it works on a simple process of sending a keyboard stroke to each open game client.
A player is still in control of what that character is doing, no input from play = no action on the characters.
Botting is a program that does everything with out human input, big difference.

The bots are already back full force. Great job with the lockout screwing over all your players. Sure helped a lot. This game is a dumpster fire.

There’s a ton of bots back in instances.
So what you’re saying is by pressing a button to control one character, the program AUTOMATICALLY replicates that for other characters?
1 keystroke = 1 action on 1 character. Anything else is automation and should be banned.

+1 Remove the lock. Admit you are wrong please, and do it soon. Otherwise you will only have bots playing classic.
not everyone likes to troll as hard as you do.
You mean the same reset mechanic that was there the entirety of vanilla? That one?
You mean the vastly higher frequency of dungeon farming and abuse of the reset mechanic in classic that was not a thing in vanilla? That one?
Both of which could end up being irrelevant upon the explanation of what they meant by exploitative and when they revert the change
Blizzard needs to regain Player confidence… a simple banwave wont cut it… because it will be no different than any other ban wave from the past… bots will be running rampant again within weeks and it’ll be another 6 months to a year until the next banwave…
We need to see more regular and proactive bannings… weekly ban waves/reports if possible, but no longer than a month.
Better yet, why don’t you build player trust/confidence by doing what Jagex does with Runescape and have literal bot busting livestreams every now and there where some Blizzard moderators can live steam themselves going out into the world to where known botters are and kill/ban them live, then conclude the stream by having the system nuke the rest.
Such as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bplTSX26oLc
Would be awesome as well if you did these live bans at Blizzcon too like Jagex does at runefest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb54-MdKxvk

This guy log’s in everyday for 12 hours in Burning Steppes with the 3 rogues. Then all of a sudden at the same time 12 stealthed lvl 2/3 Night elves appear(and a 26 lvl hunter for Eagle eye) by the Black lotus spawns? He doesn’t bother to switch zones with the new spawn rates. How many Lotus is grabbing every 12 hours? Saving up for college?
Where is all the gold going?
You have incorrectly banned my account for botting. Thanks Blizzard.
No you make a key stroke on your computer and all the clients register that key stroke, it is not automatic.
Automatic by definition is a process or device working by itself with no human input. Multi boxing programs have human input that sends the give key stroke to the game clients, it is not automatic because if you do not press a key then nothing happens, it has human input therefore is not automatic and can not be counted as automatic as it has manual input from a human, it’s not a program that runs a preset line of code or command, so not automatic.
Sorry to educate you and burst your bubble.

Are you seriously running more than 30 a day? I don’t see why its a problem, unless you’re boosting. Which is also a problem.
I would have loved to be in the meeting where someone suggested using something that Blizzard joked about in their 2006 April Fool’s patch notes as a “solution” to botting. Because that is what this is, a joke. This instance cap hurts players more than it hurts botters.

Sometimes playing with cheaters can be fun because of the challenge factor but after awhile it gets kind of old. Fighting an evenly matched opponent feels more rewarding to me.
I agree with this… If the current system is automated to watch certain behavior and they’re flagged… hopefully it’s not an automative ban
You could watch over these certain ppl who have a exceeded a threshold and from there make a decision if they’re exploitive/botting
The problem with this is when a bot bans a bot…
Here we have a national saying going: “i remember”.
I remember Heroes of the Strom bans for “toxic behavior”. No appeals, ever.
