I had Chromie on day 1 and forgot about this achieve, so I did not wave. Haven’t seen any named NPCs spawn since.
It’s Thursday and I’ve noticed the absence of all named NPCs again, too, but I saw them ALL at the same time two days ago on Tuesday just after server reset and daily reset when waves of players entered the Roost to complete the quest.
People have also reported completing the achieve on day one of MF. Others likely finished a week ago Tuesday after the last resets. So, my best guess at this point and as was pointed out by others, is that the named NPCs spawn a limited number of times per week and after they hit whatever number they stop spawning until the next server reset. On megaservers, even with layers, it would seem to only take one or two days for this to happen.
It’s interesting to think about this as an unintended consequence of the ‘megaserver’. OG Cata was spread out across hundreds of servers with smaller population caps. Wowhead comments from 2011 don’t include any mention of ‘missing’ NPC named spawns, just that some of them are rare as we have also noticed, so it’s possible OG never felt this ‘bug’ or limitation of the game code.
If you’re having trouble with this one, try to make an effort and be on at daily reset time next Tuesday. If this pattern of NPCs showing up Tuesday and dwindling by Weds/Thurs holds, then with the /wave macro and diligence removing the ones you’ve already seen, it should complete rather quickly.
Happy adventuring!
Yeah. This is one of the best examples of “how did they implement this without realizing that it was not going to age well.” It’s right up there with Talon’s Vengeance, summoned elites that require a group, etc.
On Benadiction I haven’t seen a named NPC in days.
Dead server Myzreal I’ve spawned both Mankrik (today) and Thassarian. I’ve had an all unnamed squad about half of the time.
I’ve seen all the named NPCs on different characters.
I tried the ‘launch 2nd game so two characters on same account are in game at same time’ trick but while my character is still visible, their squad disappears as soon as I launch the 2nd game.
Otherwise this would have been an easy way to get the achieve on all my characters.
Saw Mankrik the other day but that was the only named NPC I’ve seen since.
Thanks for the additional responses!
It makes sense you can still spawn them on a dead server, if what I’ve suggested above is happening, i.e. your server doesn’t have enough people doing the quest to hit their ‘no more spawns for the week’ number.
To anyone that still needs this achieve, I’m confident the named NPCs will all spawn again tomorrow after server reset. If you’re on a high pop/megaserver, try to be on just after dailies reset for your best chance at seeing the ones you still need. They’ll still spawn through the evening too, but after one day, expect to stop seeing them until the next server reset.
Good luck!
this was on ally or horde?. i was told you can only get Mankrik on horde side
so apperantly the orb of deception works to spawn the oppiste faction from what i was told
Can’t confirm OoD works to spawn Mankrik, but I will give a few tries this week.
I can confirm that all named NPCs spawned throughout the whole week last week, instead of only spawning on server reset/Tuesday then stopping spawning one or two days later.
If you still need Mankrik, he will definitely spawn, just be patient.
Thanks for all the community comments and to devs for the hotfix!
do you know what days may spawn who?
Mankrik spawned for an Ally toon?
Absolutely false.
I tried it on my 85s, use Orb of Deception to spawn opposite faction named npc.
My gnome mage used the OOD to transform to tauren, picked up quest, flew to sethia, and Thassarian spawned.
Don’t bother trying OOD. Same faction still spawns (got Thass on my gnome mage)
Bumping this, legit been looking for Chromie for four days on Grob. Either she is INCREDIBLY rare or something isn’t working right.
Although many named NPC’s for this achieve have been seen spawning on Pagle, for much longer than after the first day of server reset (scroll up to my other posts to see how this has been hotfixed since I posted it)…
The safest bet for anyone who still needs this:
-make time to be online after server reset (Tuesday morning) AND at daily reset;
-create the /wave macro (you can find it here Wowhead);
-camp out in the Roost for an hour - less if you’re lucky, longer if you’re not - right after server/daily reset clicking the button.
I also have had no luck spawning Mankrik with OoD/OotS.
PSA: daily quest reset time will change on Sun Nov 3rd 2024 when we ‘fall back’ to Standard Time, resulting in the daily quest reset happening one hour earlier, e.g. dailies currently reset on Pagle at 11am server time, on Nov 3 2024 they will reset at 10am server time.
Good luck, happy hunting!
