Accessibility Killed

Because putting Purple bad with purplish good on a less purple floor helps colorblind people… oh wait I can use the colorblind mode that does… oh wait im Blue color blind so that doesn’t help… thanks for bringing that up because WA would let me change things that I can’t see (outside boss fights for the most part) to where I can see them and now (no debating on who is at fault for this) I can no longer do it

Here we go with the “Think about the disabled kids Blizzard!” bargaining chip.

This states their main focus, which was never in question.

If we went through every single thing Ion said that ended up being blatantly false we’d be here a hot minute so instead I’m just going to point to the big ticket item of “we’re not killing weakauras” and oh wow what’s that addon that died a violent death just over yonder?

Its unfortunate for the people with disabilities that Blizzard needs to help find a solution for that their concerns are being piled in with an mountain range of overreaction

This is my primary use-case as well.
Having the ability to trigger an audio queue for rotational importance helps to cut through the visual noise that is 60% of the raid encounters.

DBM/Boss auras were never something I relied on, but I can absolutely see why having the words “You have the bomb” flashing on your screen would be useful for someone who is hearing impaired.

It’s a “he said/she said” situation but at this very moment I can’t say whether Blizzard killed weakauras or the weakauras creators are just pulling a ret paladin discord maneuver to try to get what they want.

“Hey we’re gonna turn your entire addon you spent 10 years developing into a glorified paint bucket… what do you mean you don’t want to continue development?”

Sounds like they’re pulling a ret pally discord move then.

While I understand that people in general lie to move things along, I don’t think it’s fair to believe that they will maliciously destroy RP addons, or other non-combat addons, when the focus is to make addons not have to be relied on IN raid/m+/pvp.

It’s illogical to expect them to continue development, they’re not canning it to get something they’re canning it because the addon is dead. Taken out back shot twice in the head.

You know the biggest tell that it’s not a ret pally discord move? It’s only dead for midnight. Classic will still have weakauras.

I completely agree, Blizz is going to get A LOT of push back once these changes go live. Not to mention they are killing the communities that developed around the development and maintenance of these addons. Shifting philosophies after this many years is going to cost them.

Well then people will finally be telling the truth when they say that weakauras aren’t necessary. Because they’ll be dead in retail and still unnecessary in classic.

Eh… They started trying to create mechanics that weren’t going to be handled by an addon, and addon development improved to combat that.

Having a machine spit out lines telling you how to play through any complicated step in a fight is what they want to address, and I get that. This isn’t a purely one-sided issue, and it’s easier to remove access to the problem solver than it is to engage in an arms race with the people who add modules into it any time you try.

I feel bad for people with genuine disabling or limiting issues and how Weakauras support ending will affect them, but I’m not gonna throw my opinion on this topic into a woodchipper until I see how things play out in reality.

Raiding outside of Mythic has already been simpler this entire expansion than it generally is. There are more pass/fail mechanics, there haven’t been a metric ton of weirdly intricate overlaps on mechanics, and by and large personal responsibility for each player makes Normal and Heroic very easy. I still see people trying to use WAs as an autosolver so they don’t have to use their damned brains and eyeballs.

Mythic is a different beast, but if removal of information means Mythic and lower can be designed to be functionally solvable on an individual level with just BlizzBM, then I’m not sure I see this as a net loss.

Flying isn’t necessary, lets get rid of that too shall we?
Actionbars aren’t necessary just click the one button out of your spellbook
“Isn’t necessary” is a massive copout, you know it, I know it, please engage a little more honestly.

Our friend Lahlania with the help of AI wrote an ode to our blind friend that I shared on the addons thread too, these journal entry are usually a lighthearted and comical avenue through which Mystic Birdhat shares his unique and interesting perspective on funny things in wow but today was different. We’re all very sad about the changes and the impact they’ll have to anyone in need of accessibility features, namely our friend River who’s blind and yet still tanks our keys and raid and dps’s with the best of us. We’re requesting refunds on the expac, and going month to month with the plan to unsub entirely if they move forward as is

Day 4,592 of the Grand Expedition
(The War Within – Rumors on the Wind)

There is something shifting in the world.

Birdhat says the mages in Valdrakken have been whispering of new edicts, invisible changes to the weave of things. Enchantments unraveling. Spirits growing silent. Whispers once familiar now sealed behind closed doors.

The Champion listens, silent. Others in the warband—those most attuned to the subtleties of magic and sound—have grown uneasy. They say the world feels different. Less helpful. Less kind.

And then, around a fire last night, one of our oldest friends unshouldered their pack and spoke softly:

“I do not think I can continue with you.”

Not for lack of courage. Not for want of heart. But because the path ahead will no longer speak to them the way it once did. The world, it seems, is being made for those with sharp eyes and ready ears. For those who see and hear things plainly.

But some among us never have.
And yet they still found their way.
Not through sight or sound, but through brilliance—of wit, of will, of stubborn joy.

Now, the spells that once guided them—charms of warning, murmurs of positioning, echoes of proximity—are being silenced. Not by enemy spellcasters or some malevolent force… but by decree.

Birdhat wept openly.
So did I.

These are not adventurers who “need help.”
They are the ones who helped us—
Who tanked the unseeable, healed through the cacophony, and danced through battles on instinct and trust.

If the winds change in such a way that they must remain behind… then perhaps the rest of us have lost our way more than we realize.

Trail Wisdom #67:
“If the path grows too narrow for your companions to follow, it is no longer a path worth walking.”

That you’re missing the point, which is that weakauras are currently a requirement just to run several specs, is the fun part.

I’m saying they are currently necessary and that making them unnecessary is a good thing.

You should be happy, more classes will be as intuitive and easy to learn but hard to master as Ret is now. Lift your brothers up.

I’m not going to assume malice where incompetence will suffice.

In the ConsolePort discord, creator is saying there may be collateral damage but still should work.

Not sure how I feel. :frowning_woman:

I’ve seen many people already saay this but I’m going to miss the WeakAura that puts a circle around your mouse cursor because it’s so hard to keep track of with all the different spell animations especially if you’re melee.

Devs pointed out that the restrictions went way more radical than just affecting raid combat and its restricting even trivial things like “break 5”, so they decided to stop supporting WA for retail, its still going to work for Classic etc.

It sucks but life goes on. I do feel bad for the deaf playerbase though
