About the now mandatory Authenticator

Interestingly, I just looked at the premade dungeon list and there was one advertising post there - so somebody thought it worthwhile to use an account with an authenticator on it to advertise. Naturally I reported it because it will be interesting to see how much faster these guys are slapped out with this new system inplace.

It’s not that hard to fix actually, their is even people you can call, or they can call you, you give them proof you own the account, they remove the authenticator and you are free to add a new one.

I dont take orders from a video game and i shur wont pur there apps on my stuff so guess what my its called free will not a 3rd world country

I don’t have a cell phone. Requiring me to pay $30+can a month for an active phone on top of the $21.46can I pay a month for access to the servers for a grand total of $51+ is what seems malicious to me.

And what makes this all the more worse is I paid for an authenticator back in the day but cannot use it because if the battery dies, the only way I can recover the account is by emailing Blizzard a copy of my gov’t ID, which was not how it was sold to me.

And even if I did use the authenticator I purchased directly from Blizzard, they will not open the bag slots for me because requires a step that cannot be done on their product. And they will not make exceptions to this, despite knowing I will be using the product I paid them money for.

I understand why they are doing it and would be willing to meet them half way by getting a pre-paid cell phone with a dedicated number but that is not good enough for them.

And my sympathy runs a little dry to their situation, given this is just to save the cost of actually monitoring their own dam chat channels.

I mean by that logic anything you do on your computer should require MFA. Do you walk around the streets with a parachute on the off-chance you fall off a cliff?

Or can we all agree that not all internet activity is created equal. Not sure we need bank level security for a WoW account.

Pretty sure Blizzard has had a data breach in the past…which might explain why I don’t want to give my personal info to a video game company. Frankly, it isn’t necessary. They can’t lose what they don’t have.

I’m the crazy one for not wanting my 14 year old account with thousands of hours / dollars /memories attached to it to be compromised and stolen away from me so some bot can get it banned?

You are a low effort troll lmao.

I took a year off 1s come back all my castles built up and 1mil gold sitting. I was like jody come built my city had fun and left gold at the night stand

Blizzard doesn’t do phone support anymore. They cut off all there phone support.

I’m just hesitant to get one for my account cause we all know phones break and get lost.

It is much more difficult to verify your account now then it was 10 years ago.

I pourd john gottis concreat horse barn when i was a kid but its all good

15 year player here who has never had the authenticator until today. I have not seen one “WTS” post in LFG and it has been the best thing so far.

I anticipate how clever they will get in the future, but I give huge applause to WoW for making the authenticator mandatory. Barely 5-10 seconds to authenticate is not harming anyone. It literally pops up in your phones notifications for easy confirmation.

Oh I see the problem now, you’re drunk huh

I got a ghost who comes in my account builds it up leaves gold = let him lol

Drunk no talking to people who think a video game is the real world and its funny

You don’t need a cellphone for an authenticator, A physical option is available and so is bluestacks.

In one sentence i threw your whole argument out the window.

Well your sentences make me think you’re either intoxicated having a stroke or on drugs.

I quite understand you are financially restricted with what you can afford - Im in the same boat myself. I have an old Galaxy 5 and its getting towards its use by date and I am dreading having having to find the extra money to buy another. And if the phyisical authenticator doesnt do the job that is also very annoying.

However I do sort of get Blizzard’s problem. If they tried to design some sort of internal filter people can often get around it because gold makers are very clever folk and come up with workarounds for any filter the game applies. They could, for example, replace WTS with W*T#S which the filter may not recognise as being bad.

I think an alternative would have been to give the Premade more options so that people could pick specific terms or choices that were ok, but just couldnt create their own self-made lines of text. Perhaps if people keep putting in positive suggestions it might still happen.
