Ability/Loot Lag on North American Servers Despite Normal Latency

Since yesterday (July 25th 2019) I’ve been having connection issues. They appeared suddenly and unexpectedly, before that I had not had these symptoms ever before.

The best way I can describe what happens is having an enormous amount of delay, to the point at which even instant abilities have to be casted for minutes before they finally go off. At other times they don’t go off at all and I need to exit the game via ALT+F4 (because ‘Logout’ and ‘Exit game’ buttons do not work) and then try to relog again.

One strange thing is that I am able to keep chatting and talking to people in-game as normal, but my character won’t perform any actions which renders me unable to play the game.

I have ruled out PC issues and router issues and have come to the conclusion it’s an issue with my ISP’s routing to Blizzard servers. (I tried playing via sharing connection from my smartphone and the game runs smoothly, so It’s something specific to my wired home connection)

Oh, it’s also worth noting that SOMETIMES I finally manage to log in and play semi-normally, but as soon as I join a group for a world quest, or an arena, or a dungeon, everything goes wrong. I whether get stuck on the loading screen or I get inside but I’m unable to use any spells and cannot see my teammates… etc. (All that happening while I can still talk to them via party, whisper, and battlenet chat )

I’m having the exact same issues Dorimiel is having when it comes to loging in and the experience, stuff looks normal as does the latency until I get into a group or go through portal, loging in is also an issue and I’ve done the same some other poster here was doing of alt+f4 out then in at least 4 times to try to log in but of course there is not much point to that

I’m having also the same issues since JUL 25 - also from the same place where Dormiel plays (Chile, South america). Please help! the game is unplayable sometimes - and sometimes it works fine!

I am experiencing this “lag” as well. Rubberbanding. Can still chat but my abilities don’t fire anymore. Have to Alt + F4 to reload the game so my abilities will work again.

I’ve also had some WoW only related lag for the past few days or more. At first I was thinking it might be my isp (comcast - east Tennesee), so I played other online only games, and streamed videos to see if they lagged. They did not.

I get moments on occasion where I will be running around, and still see others moving, but then realize I can’t use any abilities. After maybe 5-10 seconds, it catches up, and I see my world and home lag are both high, but then go back to normal.

I’ve done power cycles, driver updates, turned addons off, but it still happens only in WoW.

I have just leveled a human warlock to 120 on the server Stormrage a few days ago now and as soon as I hit BFA content I started getting this ability and loot lag as well as a bit of lag/delay when I turn in quests. I hadn’t really played any of my other characters on this server until my Warlock hit 120, but my 115 Warrior also gets this lag. My level 27 monk on Stormrage has yet to experience this lag. My characters on the server Farstriders do not get this lag at all.

Which is odd as on Stormrage I get 40ms and I get massive ability delay, but on Farstriders, which is 70-80ms I get no lag at all. I live in the eastern part of the USA so Stormrage should be the better server, and the numbers show that it is. But once I start casting the numbers mean nothing. When I cast on Stormrage, I will get casts that have 0ms latency all the way up to 700ms and 1000ms. Hugely inconsistent. On Farstriders I get the same constant 180ms cast latency.

Server Time: Any time in these zones, there is a slight ramp up time of a couple of minutes, then there’s constant hiccups, say every 5-15 secs or so on abilities and looting causing them to be delayed from 1-3 seconds.

I just want to add, this issue has never occurred until Korialstrasz/Eldre’Thalas recently (within last two months) has apparently stealth merged with other realms: Misha, Mok’Nathal, Silvermoon, Rexxar. Other guild members have said similar with no issues before this merge.

Every single time I loot anything the game freezes for 1-2 seconds, and when dual gathering on a Druid that gets horribly annoying really, really fast.

This has gone past absurd. Can you fix it or not? If not just say so.

Oh, and the ten+ second game freeze every time I level up or change zones is not amusing.

Same issue here while questing… Happens at odd times… Mostly while questing or dungeon grouped.

Reinstalled game. Removed addons went on with out any addons and didn’t work so I moved to next step.

Replaced Modem and router. Replaced Ethernet cables just for giggles while at it. Issue persists.

Still an issue on Turalyon, especially during prime time. Can barely do anything in Boralus despite my latency suggesting everything should be peachy.

Additionally, this weekend when joining world groups for various activities, I noticed a SIGNIFICANT delay in how long it took for me to phase to the group leader’s shard. It was so bad in Darkshore especially that by the time I got to the group’s shard, they’d already killed Ivus; it was over a 20-second delay.

  • Realm Character is on: Dalaran-US
  • Zone (Zulzadar/Boralus/Arathi/etc): Any outside zone and several instanced areas (e.g. Proving Grounds)
  • Server Time When Issue Occurs: Near constantly, became noticeable around two weeks ago and feels like it’s getting worse.

Casting timed spells like ‘Holy Light’ on either Holy or Retribution spec will stop at the end of the cast and the cast does not go off, timed buffs stay stuck at 0s and then don’t disappear off the buff bar, and nearby players stop in place. The lag resolves itself after a few prolonged seconds but turning/moving my character seems to also trigger whatever is causing the input lag and forces the game client to catch up to the server (however, when in combat with creatures that stun or immobilize my character, I’m stuck waiting for the input lag to resolve itself and I usually find myself near death when it finally does). My latency stays at around 50ms even when this happens.

Deleted my WTF, Cache, and Interface folders and disabled addons to make sure it wasn’t a third party issue as well, issue still persists with a fully reset game.

Ok so, I made a worgen druid and since having entered Gilneas…I’ve been having a lot of lag. Both my home and world MS are hovering around 55…but there’s lag when I cast a spell or call my chauffeur. Quests take a few seconds to turn in and acquire as well.

All this, but the MS is low indicating there are no lag issues, and yet I’m having lag. Both are IPV6 as well. Anything wrong with Gilneas at the moment or is it just a ‘me’ problem? My other characters in other zones don’t have this issue.

So, when blizzard will do something about their servers when you are pvping 40x40 on najatar, on ashran or any other content with tons of people.
Its a shame that since 8.1 they ruined every single experience about pvp in open world. You use a spell. Allright, wait 10 seconds to see it being cast. Are you being hit by someone? Pray to not die after 10 seconds.
So, when blizzard will do something? Tomorrow, after 10 days, a month, 6 months, a year? We want answers.

This has been going on for awhile now the lag in Nazjatar makes the game unplayable but yet we are still paying to play it?!?!? With very little response from blizzard its ridiculous that this is still such an issue.

I’ve experienced this issue allll the time in BFA, and I’m pretty convinced that it’s related to the sharding technology that was introduced this xpac.

It only seems to happen when there are large amounts of players from lots of realms logging into and exiting the same shard in a localized area, such as in PVP battles in Nazjatar.

The reason why it was especially bad last night (Tuesday night) in Naz was most likely due to the high amount of players in the zone trying to get their PVP weeklies done early, as well as the war mode-enabled players logging into the zone to do the raid.

It’s common for players trying to get their PVP achievements done to hop in and out between groups in LFG in order to get placed into a shard which benefits their faction so they can easily and quickly complete the quest. The high influx of people zoning in/out of the shard rapidly, compounded with the sheer amount of players in the small area is probably what causes this.

The only time I’ve noticed this issue being really bad aside from PVP situations is when people would group-farm those random drop mounts in zones like Drustvar, which would cause the entire zone to get horribly laggy for the entire evening, often for weeks straight. I haven’t noticed that happening recently though. I guess people got their mounts and stopped doing it.

TLDR: There is probably something wrong with the sharding technology

So this issue started for me in may 2019 on all my characters on multiple servers dispite a stable home and world ping.

It got to the point that I quit playing despite having 2 months left on my sub.

I have now burnt some gold to get access to my characters and cleaned them out, I have no intention to return and so am using it to add cash to my Bnet account to get D2 silver so that when D2 moves I will be able to delete Bnet with a clear conscience and leave nothing behind.

Blizzard you have lost a loyal customer who has been with you since the first day WoW launched and bought the Collecters Ed for every expack.

I hope you do fix this and allow the people who still enjoy your games to actualy play.

Ok it’s straight up unplayable tonight. Home and world latency is 48 but when I push a button my toon just stands there. That’s it. He doesn’t move, what he’s fighting doesn’t move, nothing moves. Then suddenly nothing is where it was and the fight is over. Can’t move, can’t loot, can’t fight, can’t mount, had to click on an herb node 11 times before my toon took it. Tried to land and could not dismount. All. Damn. Day. I’m done, going to go play something else.

If you can’t fix this then say so.
