Abandon Mage. It is very bad in Midnight

In both PvE and PvP, the Mage specs are horrendous. Zero survivability and to get your damage going feels bad (why is my Frostfire Bolt replaced with Glacial Spike and why does Fire Mage have no more Phoenix Flames).

I suppose if you like being a turret, then sure play Mage in Midnight but you might as well play Warlock or Shadow Priest as they are the better turret class. Play Hunter even because at least you can move.

Mage players need to riot because our class will be dead on release come Midnight. Abandon Mage now as you are wasting your time.

I predict there will be a shortage of Mage players again in Midnight. It’s probably the class that took the biggest hit overall with their pruning and reworks.

Look - I don’t love some of the changes but let’s be real. If the damage is tuned high people will play it. So a shortage would indicate bad tuning not bad gameplay. I’m on your side but people will play whatever rips.

If some changes aren’t reconsidered, even if damage is tuned high I believe we won’t have as many mages around. Casuals won’t stick around long enough when they realize they can’t clear delves because they can’t stay alive and Mage has never been the best at low level M+ anyway, so the population is bound to take a hit. Fotm rerollers will always play fotm, so that’s whatever.

its funny they said in a devs interview with taliesin and evitel about housing right off the bat saying “in the interest of transparency and communication with the players”. had to laugh at that since there is no transparency or communication when it comes to the feedback for mages. i’ve seen all 3 mage specs complain about something and fire mage being the most vocal and still haven’t seen any update if fire is planned on being reworked or just left to spam fireball for the next 4 years.

I am willing to wait to see what the next Beta patch will deliver because it’s understandable to have radio silence from the devs during the Thanksgiving holiday but if they don’t show signs of hearing our feedback between now and Christmas time the Midnight launch is gonna be rough for sure…

unless i’ve missed something its been radio silence for fire since they first announced the changes

Though I respect your take I disagree. The creative and smooth gameplay as it pertains to PvP is why I play. Maybe your take applies in raids? It seems like they sent mage back to the Stone Age and from all the feedback in the midnight section, it seems clunky and uninspired.

I just hope blizzard listens to feedback and communicates with us. I am becoming worried.

Fire is incomplete.
Frost is clunky and ill-conceived.
Arcane is still awkward, but the PvEers don’t seem to hate the rotation in principle. If it got its tools back, it might be fine with some tuning.

For PvP, the general consensus is that the entire class is going to be DOA if it doesn’t see sweeping changes. Time to pack it up and reroll ts :joy:

When I first started playing the game, I was leveling up different classes to see which ones I liked better. I ended up dropping my mage for my Evoker because I ended up really likening the mobility of that class. So… If Mages are just going to be a turret in midnight and you want one of the most mobile casters there are, then may I recommend an Evoker? Come join us mages. As it is the least played class in the game, Evokers could use more representation any ways lol The Dragon design might warm up to ya…eventually. You can make them look cool though.

I would wait for the next beta patch, if its just more number tuning and we dont see any significant class changes for any spec i think they are prob done with class changes and its GG.

This is actually a good suggestion. I forgot that playing Evoker was an option. Evoker also happens to be the only class in the game that can be Horde without being at a racial disadvantage, which is neat.

Yay! I think I may have converted someone. After playing Evoker, it became really hard to go back to my mage. I tried a few times, but I just couldn’t do it. Next to Rogue, Evoker might be one of my favourite classes. There are definitely issues with transmog and Visage Form, and the dragon design isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Luckily for me, I love the design and animations. Honestly, I think it’s one of the most well-designed classes in the game. In Midnight there will be some small changes, but overall it looks like it’ll play mostly the same, which I appreciate.

The Dracthyr racial is also pretty strong. A lot of people will just choose them for thier racial alone. The glide gives you a little speed boost, and gliding can also avoid mechanics and knockbacks, which is useful. Wingspan is fun too if you want to send someone flying off a cliff. Funny enough, Dracthyr are about on average in terms of player popularity. The main outliers are still Night Elves, Humans, and Blood Elves. Since Dracthyr can stay in Visage Form for every class except for Evoker, lots of people roll one since they just never swap into dragon form.

my only real problem is, i really do not like the empowered spell mechanic - really really turns me off to wanting to play an evoker

That’s totally fair. I happen really like the mechanic. Out of curiosity, how come you don’t like it?

I think im too hard headed to “hold” a button waiting for something to cast (or remembering what each rank even does)

That’s fair. Not sure if it changes anything, but in the Options menu you can set Empower abilities so you press once to start them and press again to release early, or just let them fully charge.

Oh I don’t think you needed to convert anyone from the Mage camp, you’re preaching to choir, lol. Evokers are straight up better Mages minus the shorter cast distance. Devastation is so much more streamlined and intuitive than any of the 3 Mage specs and has better visuals to boot. I just main Arcane because at this point I’ve just become too attached to my character since I’ve been playing him for 20+ years. But Destruction and Devastation are my favorite alts.

Lol I see, that’s pretty funny. I’m a newer player, but I felt something similar with my blood elf mage. I love the class and race fantasy, and since Midnight was going to focus so much on blood elves, I really wanted to stick with my mage. But I couldn’t lie to myself anymore, Evoker just feels more fun to play for me. And honestly, the little hop my mage would do sometimes at the end of a Blink always annoyed me, especially after finding out it’s been a bug for years lol.

I have a feeling one of the issues Mage suffers from with Blizzard is not having a clear idea of what they should do, or how the specs should differ from each other. Sadly, especially Frost.
