A solution for toxicity

The irony that you never stopped to consider how being a scrub in a group is hurting someone else’s fun. Or that you looting their herb is hurting their fun. Taking their mob, etc.

The point is you can’t say what does and doesn’t constitute the line in the sand without also allowing other lines to be drawn and recognized as equally valid. Someone can get “hurt” or have their fun impeded by almost anything and chalk it up to someone else causing it.

FFXIV has a commendation system that did help for a time. There were no negative judgements. At the end of each dungeon, you could just choose a person to award the commendation to based on performance/attitude ect. Those commendation points then could be used to buy stuff with.

As a white mage I can tell you the problems with such a system. Healers and tanks take 90% of them.

It’s true, I was the tank

I think they should implement a fame system. Basically every player can give any other player + or - fame. They can only do it once per day and only once per other player every month.

I brought Stevie into it. And I’ll do it again.

Sounds good until you realize players will aim to have the worst score. Unofficial contests to see who can trash their rep the fastest. It would be the same reasons why negative honor doesn’t work.

Asking for only one side isn’t having a discussion. Saying how something won’t work is just as valuable as ideas for how it might. It helps point out the flaws in the idea and could lead to a solution. Your idea would negatively impact any new players. They wouldn’t have had time to build “social ilevel”. Same with players who don’t do dungeons or raids that often. I don’t see it making players go out and interact with others more. I would expect players to interact less in the fear that their numbers might go down.

No. Absolutely not. None of my game statistics should be in the hands of any other player. Especially something as nebulous as another player’s opinion of my character/game play/transmog/etc. Or because they are having a bad day. As well, I don’t want to have to fill in a survey every time I group with someone. Those number become meaningless. Players will select the same number over and over again just to get out of the survey page.

Far before then, even. Back in my day  before the internet, we actually sat next to each other and talked trash. I swear, Mortal Kombat taught me how to curse my siblings out lol <3 According to the “Toonish Annals” kept on record at the SW Library, Trash talk is a time honored tradition in gaming, yes? Goes back even further to the arcades.

Nevertheless, I can see why some would strongly cling to a “safe space” here behind the protection of the internet to talk that hardcore trash. I seldom see them in face-to-face encounters anymore. Guess with respect to traditional IRL encounters, the anonymity internet ‘‘weeded the weak ones out’’ as you’d say… or the “online disinhibition effect” as those fancy-pants scholars would say.

Speaking of softies, “Paladin,” I bet you, and everyone else reading this for that matter, couldn’t take a field surgeon treating a wound without a bunch of ~air quotes~ anesthesia. Not me. I took a musket ball to the arm and they took me below deck, let me get a nice hit of rum, and sawed my arm off LIKE A MAN! Y’all 21 century people is soft. S. O. F. T.

Sadly I play FF14 also, and I can tell you that at max level end-game content, that’s when some people get really nasty…I mean you do dungeons to collect tomes to gear up, but sadly a lot of people are angry that you aren’t playing the game as long as they have, so don’t do the same dps/heals they do.

I just treat people the way I would want to be treated if that’s not good enough then oh well.

This wouldn’t work because people are jerks and would abuse it. I’ve been silenced on these forums for making sarcastic remarks about the alliance.

Who defines toxic? Who defines “hate” speech?

What a mess. Be offended or have some moxy and enjoy the muddled mess of freedom.

entirely valid. I would too. people shouldn’t be expressing their political opinions in game or on the forums anyway.

I have played this game for nearly 12 years and I have to say I have rarely ran into the toxic players that some seem to have such issues with. If you’re having this crop up so much, maybe start by asking yourself if you’re being too sensitive or doing something that attracts bad behavior.

so… .like… 6? 6 likes is proof that the vast majority of players support you?

you’re delusional.

Rasty speaks in constant hyperbole and never has any data to back it up. I think he used to believe the nonsense he spewed, but now i think he just does it to gain attention.

Then propose a better idea then. This is a useless comment.

This is starting to sound like the Nosedive episode of Black Mirror come to forum life.

It is always when content is too hard for the group that there are social problems. The solution to this really is to make queuable content easy to do.

If people want to do harder content then you make your own groups and in cases of mythic plus it really was intended for a set group to go into those and progress through them as a group.

Blizzard should do everything possible to deter people from pugging this content at the higher levels.
