A Solution for Flying Mounts

You have the right to post it, the same as we have the right to assume it’s trolling and flag it.

Too bad, it seems like the community managers do not agree with you.

No they don’t? They can reinstate posts as they like, that doesn’t mean we can’t flag it in the first place.

Flying is for cats

Like, I get it, but I’d rather have Pathfinder than making flying suck so bad.

I’d prefer if we didn’t have to do this song and dance. If Blizz wants us to run around the new zones then just make it so you have to be at the level cap of that expansion before you get flying. Just like it was in Outland, Northrend, and Pandaria. That was FINE. But having to wait an arbitrary length of time while having to do a stupid meta achievement is crap.

You’re going in the wrong direction, op. They need to split flying and ground mounts into separate tabs (Stables and Aery) and have their mechanics work differently. The problem is that flying is STRICTLY BETTER than not flying. But that can change without just taking a nerf-bat to flight.

Make flight start at +100% speed and accelerate up to max. Adjust top speed based on attitude- diving should have a MUCH higher max speed than climbing. If you change attitude and are now going FASTER than max speed, you slow down gradually.

Make flying mounts only do +60% on the ground, +90% for true hybrid mounts like wyverns, griffins, JC panthers, Hearthsteed, etc when they’re in “ground mode”.

Make casting a flying mount take longer, but give it cool animations, like a dragon appearing out of a portal on the ground. Make cast time for ground mounts a bit shorter, and allow casting in combat with high knock-back. If you land with a hybrid mount, it switches to ground mode, and you have to cast the flying version to make it fly- this doesn’t dismount you and only takes the difference in cast time between flying mount and ground mounts.

Allow gathering and interacting with things on ground mounts, not flying mounts (Interacting on a flying mount on the ground also drops you into “ground mode”). Allow mounted combat on ground mounts! At least where it makes sense: Paladins, DKs, Arms & Prot Warriors (as a talent choice), Hunters (as a talent?), Warlocks, and Priests. Paladins’ Divine Steed is an instant mount spell on a CD. For non-mounted classes and specs, just buff mobility options as needed. 100 yard Mass TP for Mages, more uptime on Sprint, Ghost Wolf form gives +100% move speed, etc.

You don’t have to GIMP flying mounts. You can make them feel more fun and immersive, while making ground mounts FAR more versatile. That’ll even out the ground vs flying debate.

And lastly, put quest NPCs in BUILDINGS! Like, that’s all it takes to stop flying from “bypassing” content. Also, give towns and fortresses air defences, like in Blade’s Edge Mountains. Their were so many harpoon ballistae in Stormheim, but you could just fly right up to them and destroy them!

Make flying into enemy strongholds DANGEROUS and let players decide for themselves if they want to take the risk! Just no more stupid Wurm debuffs that slow you down for 10 minutes. Kill us, dismount us, lasso us in… just don’t ANNOY us.

Yeah how about not. The system we have for flying currently is just fine. There is an easy solution Blizzard made the day flying mounts were added in BC.

You simply don’t fly if you hate it. It’s easy you just don’t push the button to fly up does that seem so hard? Problem solved.

Still waiting for a valid reason.

Flying was NEVER the issue it is now and has been since WoD until Blizzard decided to make it one. Their rationale was that it “allowed content to be skipped" and it "ruined immersion” and both of those reasons are an absolute joke.

There is absolutely ZERO in game reason we can’t fly aside from the dev mindset of “we don’t want you to fly…because we don’t want you to fly……. because we said so.” How on earth is is that even REMOTELY immersive?

Let’s look at flight paths: You sit and afk while all the content whizzes past you, unable to interact with you or you with it. So immersive compared to being on a mount of YOUR choosing, going where YOU want to go, landing when and where YOU choose to for reasons YOU decide.

Since the devs/people are so worried about immersion being destroyed, then why didn’t they nerf or remove stealth?
“Skipping” content via flying: not on our watch!!
“Skipping” content via stealthing past it: shrug whatever.

Additionally, why are there a plethora of hearthstones, gear, toys, profession items and portals that allow you you to teleport across the map, the world or even to other planets? Think of all the content you’re “skipping” out on!!!

There is absolutely ZERO reason or excuse that Blizzard can’t be creative, imaginative or innovative to incorporate content and/or zones that complements flying.

If they wanted to delay flight at launch for like, 2-3 months fine, but after that period of time most people will already have:

  • explored ~all of every zone (possibly on multiple characters)
  • done ~all the quests (possibly on multiple characters)
  • done ~all the world quests (likely more than once, possibly on multiple characters)
  • run ~all the dungeons, on multiple difficulties, multiple times (possibly on multiple characters)

Dragging it out longer than that is just needless and unnecessary.

Wow.
This is actually PRETTY good.
I wish Blizzard would listen. Really good suggestions.
