Lore Foundations
worgen from the source
The Wolf Cult was formed during the War of the Satyr by the first worgen, Alpha Prime. The Cult believes the worgen curse is a blessing, refer to it as “The Purity”, and eagerly share with willing initiates in Gilneas and Duskwood.
In Gilneas, Alpha Prime’s cult grew in number from the willing Gilneans initiated, and given the worgen curse. Meanwhile in Duskwood, another branch of his Wolf Cult grew doing the same, both in search of The Scythe of Elune, with which they hoped to summon the rest of the worgen Malfurion banished. In another effort, the Gilnean Wolf Cult grew in number, and eventually launched an attack on the city itself, aiming to bite as many as possible for use in a worgen army. With with involvement of the Kaldorei and Forsaken, the plot fell through, ultimately leading to the city’s destruction. Alpha Prime’s Wolf Cultists of Gilneas went on to fight the Forsaken in the form of the Bloodfang Pack, while the Nightbane Pack lives on in the shadows of Duskwood.

Chronicle
Before the Storm
Curse of the Worgen and Dark Riders reveal the Bloodfang and Nightbane packs respectively to be two sects of The Wolf Cult, people who have elected to become worgen and live in the wild, choosing it over city life. They see the worgen curse as a gift, even calling it “The Purity”, and choose the pack lifestyle over city dwelling. They relish the hunt, and use shapeshifting to walk the city unnoticed, looking for more recruits worthy of earning the bite for themselves.
Roleplaying your worgen character as a Wolf Cultist can be fun and unique compared to the everyday Afflicted Gilnean. This style adds many themes relative to the werewolf genre to the roleplay style, including the antihero, the masquerade, and the secret order. Warcraft comics such as Curse of the Worgen and Dark Riders, as well as several questlines, give support and provide sources for history, key locations, and even culture when it comes to the Wolf Cult.
With a foundation on lore, and the creativity of roleplay, the Wolf Cult easily serves as a guild theme for a worgen-only guild. Click here to see how lore and Wolf Cultist roleplay is adapted into guild structure.
The Purity
Our worgen embrace the worgen curse as a blessing, and are always ready to share it with new willing aspirants through rites of initiation. With the gift comes superhuman speed, strength, senses, and even resistance to undeath and curses, all far beyond the capabilities of a mere human. Earn the bite, and put it good use.
The Pack
The Wolf Cult of Duskwood thrives on the worgen curse and all of its blessings. We run and hunt on all fours and feast as a pack, and protect the territory at all costs. Protect the territory, hunt with the pack, defend your family, and fight for your right to live wild.
The Masquerade
Worgen form and the wild is our true form and true home, but modern time requires use of human form to walk through the human streets unseen. Keep your identity as a Wolf Cultist hidden from the human world, lest you break your masquerade.
