A rant from a 15 year WoW player about alts, essences, and Blizzard

I didn’t mean all raiders complain about this. I am in a raiding guild and I have yet to hear people complain. However, on this forum the majority of complaints about essences are coming from raiders.

Even raiders from Method are asking for account wide essences, this dude even wrote a song asking Blizzard for it:

Could he probably get essences easily? Yes. That doesn’t mean he or other raiders want to and would prefer account wide essences instead.

Casuals, hardcore players, and everyone in between are asking for account wide essences and complaining about the essence grind. Nobody seems to want it except Blizzard.

They have complained about other things in the past as well which they didn’t get. People put themselves on that hamster wheel, they made that choice.

Actually this isn’t true. Anyone not raiding or doing high mythic pluses don’t need special essences and most (not all) aren’t stupid enough to force themselves to do things they don’t enjoy.

Except:

They like playing alts, everyone does. That’s what people do in final patches of an expansion, play alts. The essence grind is causing people to not play alts and just stop playing the game instead.

Just because you say it doesn’t make it true.

I can state

casuals, hardcore players and everyone in between don’t want account wide essences and that will be true as well.

How odd, I have 25 120s and I am playing them. I have not stopped playing the game.

I don’t really care what Method does. Their playtime is already insane. Anything that slows them down, however much they hate it, is actually good for the game.

There is a poll on account wide essences on this Bellular video (click on the little “i” in the top right to see it):

While you can say yes, it’s not the majority of WoW players, it has 160k views which is a decent enough sample size, and his audience is probably a good mix of casuals, hardcore players, and everyone in between.

84% of people said they want account wide essences.

The irony.

No I didn’t. I didn’t even make it past the title.

I am not complaining about doing things I like.

Okay…? What does that have to do with lots of other people not liking the essence grind because it makes it harder to play alts and wanting account wide essences?

I hope you realize 8.3 will be out for the span of a year or so. That’s a really long time for people to not be playing alts, that’s a lot of opportunity for people to stop playing the game pretty early on. If you like doing things in WoW with other people, that will affect you, too. It’s not just as simple as “I like it so it’s fine for me”.

For you.

Judging how short your post is, you couldn’t appreciate a long, well thought out argument if your life depending on it. See how silly that looks?

I am explaining to you the difference between people all tied up in the game and people who aren’t. I just do what I enjoy doing.

You people are so tied up you feel forced to do things and complain.

This is a game. Why the heck are you people playing it like a job or in some other sort of weird obsessive manner.

Yes and if they make essence account wide, guess what there will be almost no content for people who don’t do that challenge grind wheel content.

Well you see this is a MMO, and if you like doing things with other people in this MMO, you need other people like us to play with. If the devs make changes to the game that make the game feel no longer fun or entertaining to play, people will complain, and they will play something else that IS fun or entertaining instead. Then you have less people to play this MMO with anymore and it’s not as fun for you anymore either, because of it.

That is how MMOs work. You are naturally invested in the devs making bad decisions that drive people away from the game whether you think so or not.

Well see you can do plenty in this game with other people without getting on that grind wheel.

As I mentioned earlier I am in a raiding guild and I have yet to hear anyone complain about essences. Now that is a small sample size I realize, however, usually when there are major issues with the game someone says something. I have heard complaints about no flying, I have heard complaints about Nazjatar but not a single complaint about essences.

Well I like your post but the 200k residue is not for a raider in mind. It was for a Mythic+ player to progress not for a raider. I am in agreement on the essence issue. Coming back from Classic and the neck being gone to find out I need to PVP to optimize my PVE reminds me of old issues we had in the past.

In no way nor shape should a PVE or PVP work better then its counterpart. This irritated me because I started making alts and then to find out I need to grind this or that to optimize. Enough grinding already I am tired of your mobile gaming Blizzard. I want to play a MMORPG again and not a phone or tablet game.I personally do not like the direction they are going in. I never know what main I will decide on.

Randomly bolding words and phrases may seem like it means something, but it doesn’t mean what you think it does.

Listening and agreeing aren’t the same thing. No one on these forums represent the playerbase. You only represent yourself. This isn’t a democracy. And even if they did your version of ‘listen’, which players do they listen to? There’s no unified voice on the forums or in game.

I am perfectly fine with earning power rewards for my alts by playing them.

agree with entire post

bliz designs from stats only nowadays, there is nobody coming in saying ‘guys that just isn’t fun’

stats for how much grind a player will endure for various rewards, how much bigger grinds extend playtime and sub, and how more /timeplayed translates to more cash shop micros and gold buying

if feels like there is literally nothing else. The founders who were ‘making a game they loved to share with everyone else’ are just gone.

armory trolling? it’s more like the army or players that post on alts with little to nothing to backup their opinions because their mains leave a lot to be desired.
