Because it changes the fundamental nature of the game which is based around character progression.
It’s not, but if it makes you feel better to conflate it that way then I guess more power to you?
If I could hit 120 on a new character and have Rank 1 of all the essences I have unlocked prior does that suddenly mean I’m 445 and done with Mythic EP?
Hell even if I had Rank 3 of everything, but still had to get my neck from 35 to 65 to unlock them then what? Oh no I have Rank 3 crucible on my 390 character? I might not have to do the scenario quests for the 7th time?
You could have leveled 3 alts in the time it took you to write this.
Then you’d ask for Rank 2 to be BoA because “Rank 1 was easy, Rank 2 is harder!”. And when they gave you Rank 2, you’d ask for Rank 3.
And so on and so forth until we’re literally at “Can I just swap classes and have my gear convert ?”.
Exactly. These folk think these essences will make everyone just as strong instantly. Lol
All it will do is make it easier for folk to play more than one class at end game. That’s it. Easier. By a bit. And you’ve still worked for the essences. Just you only do it once so you can actually play.
It’s so dumb.
Again, it’s not different than, “I’ve killed these easy heroic bosses on X number of alts, I can clearly farm them, so instead of wasting my time, just mail my fresh alt heroic gear.”
I’ve already leveled once. Cleared 15 keys and the raid. Just give me 440 gear on my alts and make it easier for me to actually play.
So yes you have no actual argument and you just assume if you give a mouse a cookie it’ll ask for a glass of milk.
This whole thing boils down to you assuming the playerbase will stomp it’s feet until you can just push a button and swap everything entirely to a new character every day.
Completely glossing over any actual legitimate criticism. You know forget Artifact Knowledge and Residiuum. Imagine people wanting things to take less time or having choices with gear? Anything convenience or quality of life related must be accelerating this slippery slope right?
Still not a single developer has responded to the amazing OP to begin dialog on all the issues raised. This is so sad.
I mean, I have forum history on my side. Give an inch, people ask for a mile.
I’ve literally seen some people asking for literally that.
You’re getting a whole patch that’ll be 100% about gear choices, more than ever.
Uhuh. Yes thats what’s happening. This is all a ploy to get gear. Not at all possible that folk just don’t want to play outdated useless content over again and again just to function in each expansions endgame.
Legion was totally ruined when they removed research and the power grind.
No no it’s okay I get it. In fact I say we go a step further together Basp.
Let’s just get rid of raising ilevels between patches it’s letting returning players invalidate too much progress, in fact let’s remove the ability to play more than one character per account since that just incentivizes the potential of people rolling something new. They should have to commit to a single character for this journey right?
Sure I guess. I don’t see how alts go against “character progression” but whatever floats your boat.
At least I’m consistent with my arguments.
Rated pvp, bgs, raids, keys, and the neck are outdated content? Wtf do you do?
So yes, you are asking for catchup for the entire xpac? Again, why stop at essences. Gear, levels, achievements, just qol it all bby!
No you’ve just really opened my eyes here, if the MMORPG genre is strictly about character progression in the singular tense then it only makes sense to focus people down that road right? If you roll another character that should require you deleting your existing character! Can’t let any of that enjoyable content be missed or skipped.
People should have to finish Loremaster of the expansion too before being allowed to go into the next expansion. That way they can feel really committed to that character and ensure they feel a strong and meaningful progression.
I know you aren’t interested in anyone else but yourself, but you do understand there are players that pay the same 15 you do, that think this game has too much qol already right?
That they’d rather play a 15 year old game that wasn’t perfect then, let alone now because they want core adventure rpg mechanics back? Where there is no qol or catchup…
We compromise. No one will be perfectly happy. But that is how compromises work. If you aren’t willing to compromise then you don’t really have a seat at the table.
Oh yeah I fully understand where you are coming from.
I’m definitely strictly only thinking about myself here which is why I am the only person ever to recommend account wide essences.
Really just the only person on this entire planet to ever even bring it up.
To summarize the walls of text, BFA is not alt friendly.
I am also a 15 year WoW player.
I was hardcore no Lifers back then. I also found Vanilla not alt friendly. But I worked very hard for that 1 toon to reach Naxx40 with my elite guild and ended up Lt Commander as soloist. It was fun.
I was switching back and forth between Alliance and Horde in BC, havent done much.
But in WoTLK, i quit my elite raiding guild. Pressure was too much… it’s like a job requiring too much time on me. I found a decent PuG group… doing Gold DKP. I only raided every weekends. It went fine on me. I made 2 alts killing the Lich King.
After WoTLK, I lay low. Have to stop my WoW addiction. I quit WoW but I kept coming back. But this time, I became a Casual. I wasnt able to raid for a long time becoz the expansions cant cater casuals.
Then Legion came… that expansion is casual friendly. I was able to raid again. I was able to reach Mythic Emerald Nightmare all on Dungeon Finder as Casual. Legion is a bit alt friendly though I didnt touch much my alts.
BFA is like Legion 2… very casual friendly but not alt friendly.
I’m not fond of alts so I am not much affected.
It’s about character progression yes. No one can stop you from putting the effort and redoing the content on multiple ones or not.
People really make it out worse than it actually is.
For one : the alts you did the essences on in 8.2 ? Well they’re good and done moving forward!
Do you have an idea how long it takes to get 20,000 achievement points, let alone 30,000? I’d wager a guess that they’ve invested enough time into the game to have a valid opinion worth listening to.
There are plenty of people that suggest removing LFR. That want instanced content gone. That want no changes to classic. They want mythic raiding removed.
These are all opinions. All there are always people to upvote.
Understand that for every opinion there are people that have the opposite/ conflicting opinion.
If you can’t see that, or understand that, or actually think that other peoples opinions are wrong, but yours is right and reasonable, then yes, its you.
