A questions to the players of my age group

I miss the late 90’s and early 2000’s where we were just being dumb by throwing crab apples at each other. 2020 is F***** up.

It’s definitely how I feel!

Me too, though I do prefer Xilennial. The micro generation on the cusp of the change between Gen X and Millennial, described as “An analogue childhood with a digital adulthood”.

I’m in my late 40s, my wife is in her 30s. We still game just fine.

And the “founder” thing is silly. We didn’t Kickstart WoW or early access, it’s a subscription game. Play or don’t, it’s your cash.

I’m almost 70 and I don’t even know what I’m talking about.

I’m younger than you, but I had this attitude as well when returning to WoW after a 6 yr break in Legion. I finally feel like I want to be in a raiding guild after doing LFR for 2 expansions and recently joined one.

I think people need to sometimes take a break or just do something different for a while, but some tend to have an “all-or-nothing” attitude sometimes.

I have no idea what’s going on in the game any more. I don’t think it’s as related to age and more because the game just evolved into something I became less interested in, both because of direct changes to it and my own tastes in gaming changing over time. Like I don’t raid or do dungeons, and never do rated PvP, so I’m always missing a lot of the story and many of the concepts and concerns people talk about are foreign words to me. I just come back at the start of every expansion to do the world content, jump back into this universe I spent so much of my time in, and shake my head at kids these days who wont get off my lawn.

I do believe that people who started from or near day one definitely contributed to the game’s early success. Because as you said, it’s a subscription game. Trying to minimize older players contributions is as silly and illogical as when those older players try to act like gods of wow.

I am way older than you. I come to forums to discover new stuffs that I miss in WoW like new events like Anniversary events or Zombie events. And I usually understand the words of these Millennials or Post Millennials. If I dont understand them, I just whisper them to explain to me what they’re saying. Sometimes I just have my daughter to explain it to me. Whatever works.

Urban dictionary is invaluable. People are saying simp more than KMA these days and I had no idea what it mean. U Dictionary to the rescue.

I’m 35 and have been playing since Beta. I find I could get lost or left behind pretty effortlessly. A lot has changed, both with in game mechanics and culturally in the game since then.

But, I also think I’m from the first generation where if you don’t know something, you google it. Wowhead, Bellular, and Taliesin and Evitel pretty much keep me current on everything going on in game, both mechanically and culturally.

Also, trade chat just the other day spent a good 30 min doing the anal [link] thing, and in that moment, I realized that maybe nothing’s really changed. XD

You’re correct. I’m also from that generation and I had Bellular bookmarked until his posts became ads.

Speaking of which, who’s good to follow these days outside of the lore dudes because I definitely keep up with lore. I know the Nobbel is a lore king. Those other ones Tailspin and Eviltails, what’s their story? Youtube here I come.

Its adorable you think the 30s age group are the old timers of wow.

I started in 05 when i was 31 im 46 now. I know players in their 50s and 60s.

But to the point i dont feel weird, if that’s what you mean, about still playing wow. You are right some of the younger crowds lingo escapes me but thats life. Its a perpetual cycle. The youth of today are the middle aged of tomorrow and each age group will always have their own terminology or slang for things.

If i care to know i google it…i rarely care to know.

You’re a Wrath baby though.

https://venturebeat.com/2014/04/29/gaming-advocacy-group-the-average-gamer-is-31-and-most-play-on-a-console/

The average gamer was 31 years old in 2014. I see no reason to believe that that number has gone down. It only really makes sense that it would go up, as gamers age into higher age groups.

Sometimes, but not usually. I’m more confounded by my own peers who are in niche communities.

I’m more confused by the twitch community than the people a decade younger than me, for example.

I’m a late BC baby. I never called myself a vanilla anything only one of the early players and Wrath babies now count as that. I would have started earlier but I didn’t know this game existed until suddenly one day there was an ad on AIM or something.

Then you aren’t an original player, or a “founder,” whatever that is.

Given that WotLK came out in 2008, it’s getting close to WotLK teenagers now.

And you aren’t being helpful to this discussion so how about trying that? Pardon, I’m sorry. I 've only been playing for around 14 years so I’m still learning the ropes. DO you feel better now? Pat yourself on the back. You did it. You successfully brought negativity into what’s been a pretty productive discussion so far. WHAT A HERO!
