A Mentor system in WoW

I personally don’t think they should give any rewards for doing this. They start giving rewards they get people ‘helping’ for the wrong reasons.

And just because the game makes it possible to do mythic plus without a guild or friends, I am sure we can all see the constant QQ threads on here which are the result of not doing so.

The image says you have to have “Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part 1”, be “Level 60” and “Be in good standing”. That would imply that even if you’d had some action taken against you, as long as it’s worn off, you can participate.

Personally, I’d like to know if there are any rewards for this program and what kinds of plans they have to keep it from getting abused. Though if it’s easy enough to turn on and off, I might participate even without any rewards.

Apart of me the more “skeptical” side of me could see some real stupid abuse or signing up for some nifty rewards while crapping on the person you are supposed to be mentoring.

I really hope the Developers are selective about who signs up, I would rather have people who are genuinely wanting to help versus people signing up to get something out of it for themselves.

There should be absolutely no rewards. The ffxiv Mentor system pretty much proved rewards defeat the system.

Given how toxic it is in FFXIV no. Hell to the no.

This isn’t even used really in FF14. Most of the people that want to unlock and do the mentor system are doing it for the mount reward. Others like to think they are a cool person with the little crown in front of their name and act like they know everything. The WoW community is just to toxic to even care. I’m positive more new players will be berated rather than helped.

This will be a failed system in WoW and in a 2 (maybe just this one) xpac it will be left to collect dust.

I would also like to point out that most of the time I’m doing a mentor roulette and see a new sprout player that’s doing something poorly, I’ll try to give them tips but they just ignore me.

This won’t end well, they better promote class discords.

To become a guide you should have to have a minimum amount of years/played time.

Yes by far guilds would be better. This even applies to my post up… even in FF14 a Free Company (Guild in that game) can be far more helpful for new players than the mentor & novice network.

I just hope they’ve thought of ways this can be abused…

“Oh that person is a mentor?”
/spam report till that person is no longer eligble

Toxic community is toxic.

They could do it with rewards but not something like FF14 where you get a mount.

A reward could be something like some new currency that could be used for special things like pay for a full gear repair or something. Players give you a comm like point at the end of various dungeons. If you get over a set amount at the end of each month then you can get 50 mentor badges. Each badge will pay for 1 repair.

That’s just some example I came up with off the top of my head.

I think the point is that if you are looking for a mentor/help, your best bet would be to join a guild which has been designated as one that actively helps players.

Person joins three or four such guilds. Person sees discussion of big extremity dps in each. Person quits.

Blizzard can’t moderate guilds or communities the way they can moderate this.

I’m for it. Any way we can encourage new players is great. Seeing some of the very sarcastic/rude responses In /2 when asking for help even as an experience player can be disheartening. A way to cut out the noise and help new players not be overwhelmed is good imo. I’ll try it out as a mentor :grinning:

If you read some of the data text messages, it says:

“You’re not eligible to be a guide because you have a penalty on your account history.”

Not that its something that has worn off, but that its something you have done in the past, period.

Whether they adjust that somehow by way of time limitations or seriousness or whatever, I have no idea. I sort of hope so; something you did as a silly 16 year old really shouldn’t count against you 12 years or so later. Unless it was something particularly heinous, I guess, like harassment.

Now i wonder, how do i check my account history and see if it’s in good standing? (Without Shadowlands obviously)

That’s a really neat idea and I like it but I am also very curious of the memes and horrifyingly bad things that will come from it.

Uh… yeah, I read that. The title for that is also: NPEV2_CHAT_GUIDE_FRAME_ERROR_BAD_STANDING Once it’s cleared, you shouldn’t be in bad standing anymore.

Given that the descriptive message should only be shown at the last minute, the basic explanation of “Be in good standing” takes precedence. It does not make sense to tell a user they must be in good standing, then later tell them they also need to have never been in bad standing. If the desired behavior is to rule out anyone who was ever in bad standing than the current UI has a bug and it’ll get fixed at some point.

“To become a Guide, you must meet certain criteria: be level 60 (max level in Shadowlands), complete Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part One (bugged on beta), and have your account be in good standing.”

That’s memeworthy.

Can’t wait for bots, gold sellers and guilds to abuse this system.
