Crafted a T1 base legendary today. Market has them selling at a pretty big loss versus mat cost. Some quick math and I figured it’s going to run me into the neighborhood of 25 million gold to get to craft the tier 4 mail base pieces, another 25 million to craft the tier 4 leather bases.
It begs an interesting question, how many millions of gold does the average player have stashed away just to buy the base piece, off the AH, for one legendary for one spec.
To be more specific, to make only my BiS for one spec, farming all mats except the one that comes from enchanting will require 4.4 million gold. I’ll make back some of that selling at a loss…
That misses the point…
Do people that don’t craft want this? They are farming Torghast no? T1 may just set them back 50k-100k depending on the piece.
However, is everybody ok dropping 1m+ to buy their T4 base per spec per character? What if you buy your T4 and Blizz nerfs it? Now you need a new piece…
You’ll have everything you need but the base… How many millions does each player have?
See I knew this would happen, people are way too busy riding that hype train not realizing that with the raid right around the corner and the Mythic season soon beginning that things will be tuned.
Overpriced for the hype is what it is. Blessed that my guild has an active player base and we all work cohesively regarding professions. I cant imagine dropping gold for a legendary. That being said my legendary BiS and 2nd BiS isnt even in the friggan game until the raid drops.
The prices are going to drop tremendously within a few weeks after the release of the raid tier. Your mistake is assuming the current prices will stay the same throughout the expansion.
As people continue to rank up and sell off higher and higher ranked base pieces, the market will become increasingly saturated and the price will drop from that alone. Higher influx of materials into the market as the expansion goes on will also drop the price of materials and subsequently the crafted items.
With the release of the raid tiers, mythic+ and conquest gear, two major things will happen to drop the costs of materials and base pieces:
way more access to epic gear and therefore much more eternal shards and subsequent decrease in opportunity cost for leveling enchanting. Enchanted callous hide and Elethium bars will plummet in cost.
Massive inflation in item level. People are crazy for rank 3 and rank 4 legendaries not because they are actually that good but because compared to the ilvl 180ish stuff everyone is wearing right now those item levels seem godly. Within a few weeks of mythic+, rated pvp and raid progression the gap in item level will shrink drastically and the appeal of those rank 3/4 base pieces will not seem nearly as high to competitive players
I expect rank 3 pieces to drop to an average of 75k gold by the second month. After the initial surge in demand and everyone has their legendary, the market for base pieces will continue shrink while more and more base pieces flood the market due to people ranking up. What happens when supply goes up and demand goes down? You do the math.
You 1M for a t4 im highly doubting as the correct price on my realm your already seeing t4 base listed at 130k per some slots as little as 70k for the 235 4th tier base. So if its costing you 1m to get your base your donig something wrong. Even getting your BIS + next best to have a backup in case of nerf wont set you back 1M+ furthermore 4M.
IF your adding all the costs to unlock the pattern to your calc thats not the correct way to find the cost of making it as you should be selling those of and not at a loss. You might be selling at a loss today but if you wait there will be a time and soon that people are not skilling up as such the price stablizes and its no longer a loss. People do not play the AH to lose gold no they aim to make it. They accept a loss at times in order to make money later.
As a note t1 dose not set up back 50-100k its sets you back about 10k at best the one I used for my helm costed me 5.7k +700 per the two stat items.
You have had to have picked up nearly 100k gold already this expansion if your looking at legendaries, mobs drop 1-5gold a piece, covenants are rewarding nearly 1k a quest. You have to be able to afford your T1 legendary EASILY, if you can’t manage your money, maybe ask someone to hold your gold. Gold income has been vastly increased this expansion.
As for T2+ don’t bother pricing that out, its weeks months away, prices will drop vastly by then.
t2 is next week its not months away, t3 is the week after and t4 is posible to get that week also but more likly the week after that unless really good rng on missions. As such none not even t4 is months away there less than a month at worst and really half a month.
The biggest cost to legendaries isn’t the actual material cost, it’s the fact that Enchanting is necessary to make your items, but is incredibly expensive to level due to it’s reliance on epic crystals, and most epics right now being actually used rather than disenchanted.
Once raids and M+ opens up, and epics flow like water again, the price of legendaries is going to crash harder than a four year old whose just eaten a dozen pixie sticks.
Judging a long term cost by the prices of first and second week of an expansion is beyond stupid.
I know its probably a pain, but players should make alts if they need to…or even take the relevant profession, and make their own stuff, if the prices are this outrageous.
Guess THIS is what happens when professions are made “meaningful”.
Maybe it is better if theyre only useful for mogs as far as gear goes. Otherwise the poor players wont be able to afford to keep up.
Does the same quality of gear drop or is it only crafted?
hopefully it drops so poorer players have a path to gearing up at some point.
Like I mentioned before, the reason of why many legendaries are so expensive to craft isn’t because the actual materials are expensive, it’s because you need almost max-ranked enchanting to make some of those materials, and enchanting is SUPER expensive to level.
Like I’m at 65 enchanting on my alt, and the only real path forward requires a LOT of Blue/Epic shards, which can only be gotten by DE’ing blue and epics. Which considering we’re only a couple days into the second week of an expansion, is still relevant gear for most people. Last check, eternal crystals were about 7k each on my realm, and you basically need one per skill up, until you reach the more “budget” recipes, which only cost 700 per skill up.
In a couple weeks when people start raiding and doing M+ on the norm, enchanting will become a lot cheaper and materials will flood the market drastically lowering the price of crafting legendaries.
Even a “poor” player shouldn’t struggle to buy their legendaries with the amount of gold you earn in-game by doing your WQ’s, daily cache, missions, etc.
