This is when a class like paladins comes in and offheal on a pinch, buying time and space for the healer to do their magics.
But we get vilified by the community for ‘‘offhealing too much on a WOG’’ in which we are not doing any dmg via that 3 hopo and it’s 1 single target. We cannot sustain near infinitely as we used to be able to do if we play it smart becuz the same community says ‘‘DPS should not be able to keep ppl alive if the healer’s dead becuz paladins players are scrub in the 1st place, BIG NERFZ PLS’’.
Then in the upcoming patch they finally will get their wish becuz our healing passive talent is now made to affect us only. Any healers who appreciate any form of offhealing assistance from rets is now gonna have to do it mostly on their own. We can only save ourselves now. We used to be able to keep the healer alive while they pump to keep everyone else alive, creating a feedback loop.
The only way to “fix” tanks and healers is to make them monstrously overpowered, which in the process ruins the roles for the minority playerbase that enjoys them for what they’re supposed to be. If you don’t enjoy the roles right now then you just plain don’t enjoy them in truth. You want to play with cheat codes activated.
There are two actual and unironic fixes. You can either retool group sizes and compositions to match the support playerbase, or you can remove the roles entirely. Both are doable, though the latter is a more stable and permanent fix. Blizzard is not going to uncover the secret to making support roles inherently broadly appealing after over two decades of no developer having been able to do so.
Tanks are insanely overpowered now than ever (DF+) In all wow history. Tanks did/are doing insane solos. Soloing mid-high end bosses in m+ by themselves. Doing 90% of damage or healing of other roles. Making them more powerful will just make other roles unless and wow is built on the three roles and always will. we already seen people do high keys without an healer or with 5 tanks IN TIME!. Theres not much more making them just gods among men without any draw backs. They made tanks be able to live stuff just by getting geared and not actual being skilled.
The problem is the lines between role so close its not weird to see specs out shine jus because they could heal more than normal or tank hits better than an real tank.
I understand people hate nerfing. The role as tank or healer in that matter. Is not fun for most anymore. The reward of pulling huge is not base on skill of the player just the norm for everyone. The amount of knowledge checks even before going in are so much its ruins the whole picture of being an tank or healer.
The floor and ceiling of tanks is so huge it turns people off. I am not talking just the skill. The knowledge ahead of doing stuff so you don’t mess up a key and wipe the whole group.
Nerfing is the only way to “reset” where those roles to be in line where they meant to be in those roles. worry about them not being “overpowered” or “weak” Is an false idea of what it will be like. For exp: Sod and no it wouldn’t be that dumb down either. Sod probably has the best tank ratio to be tanky and dpy ans till worry about arggo without being overpowered until over geared for content. They have mainly two tank specs tanky and dpsly. Both of them great. But If you go full dpsy you gonna drop a lot faster and healers have to watch you. Than go tanky you have stuff thats base on defense value to increase your output and be on pair or a little better overall than the dps build.
Most players go the defense build because that what a tank is, Even the new tanks like lock and rogue have thier place and still base on thier tankness to so more output.
This idea won’t make them dumb easy. Its would require more thought of the player on what they want to do and be like. Not like “oh i have 100% uptime on shield block and no melee effects me” Okay? Hows that skill?
In turn healers would need to worry about less going 100% to 20% on people and be worry to heal that 70% to 85% to all. Its about smoothing things out and not making players gods and going 100% to 10% in a sec and have to be perfect in mid content.
He is right tanks are built to be handle too much too easily. Its showed in a lot of content the past expacks. just being an tank you could solo devles easier than anyone else. Torghast, visions. Even soloing dugeons/raid bosses. Tanks have done so much without needing much form other players. Making them require defense to do stuff will be huge stock and fix a lot of underlining problems.
I understand the stat squish because it getting out of hand again.
I get a whopping 900 gold and 2-3 augment runes per LFR wing/Heroic dungeon when Call to Arms is up. Blizzard’s least played roles rewards make so incentivized to tank…
I think they should add a CTA for mythic+ except I don’t really know what would motivate me beyond BIS mythic track gear at this point
In this thread, wow players still fail to realize 99% of their problems with the tank/healer shortage could be solved by:
Making friends/Joining a guild
Stop being jerks to anyone who may be a smidge suboptimal
Forgiving people, including yourself, when a key is botched
Realizing that no one really cares about your rio score and your gear resets every patch
I’m not opposed to adjusting things to make the ‘forbidden’ roles more enticing, but sweeping changes ain’t it. I’d love to see a luck of the draw buff for tanks and healers UNDER a certain rio score to help newbies learn in an unforgiving pug landscape tho
yes, the very best players in the world can do incredible things. that’s cool and it’s also totally irrelevant to balancing or anybody else’s play experience.
serena williams could beat me in a tennis match with a slice of ham instead of a tennis racquet. that doesn’t show that tennis racquets are no longer important or that the game of tennis would be better without them.
but most people could do it, I did it with guildmates m+ 19 with 5 tanks in BFA (before the last patch) with time to spare and bet would do the same now even better
Tanks are overpowered and needs to go back where they need insane gear to feel overpowered Not baseline.
I never knew I needed pro tennis players using meat instead of a racquet in my life before this moment, but I feel like my life will be unfulfilled if somebody doesn’t make this happen.
Yeah, they can fix the tank shortage by making tanks fun to play. As long as tanks are not fun to play, no one will have fun. Everyone has to play the queue simulator for M+ and most people spend more time in the queue simulator than the dungeons.
problem is tanking isnt as easy as it once was, I am not talking about the “overpowered” style that brought all tanks to be gods and unkillable. The floor for is higher and need more thought than any other role. The nerfs were needed. The way thier was going is not “fun” way. I don’t know where this being OP tank baseline and can do everything without anyone is fun. The reason the most people don’t play tanks isnt because the nerfs. No one was playing tanks (even before the nerfs in shadowlands) Because the knowledge checks are insane. No one cares about being OP if the role is not fun if you have to know EVERYTHING before doing anything.
