So my conspiracy theory is that Blizzard is still opposed to Classic (“You think you do but you don’t”) and they definitely want to try to move the classic players to retail and perhaps, in their twisted reasoning, they think making it just miserable enough will drive people off classic and back to retail where the item malls and extra money is made. I mean it’s not the craziest thing a gaming company has done and man would the board eat that up.
I prefer no layers.
I’d say it’s far more likely they’re just lowering server population limits to where they want them to prep for the final round of layer removal.
completely subjective…to you.
I haven’t had to deal with a queue time for grob in a LONG TIME. Mostly because I will be playing around noon EST. However, I did some day drinking and took a nap, and am in a queue as we speak. for like 30 mins or so now.
about time they started fully removing layering.
You say that however there are free transfers from high pop realms to lower pop realms.
Just because players want to be on the highest pop Horde realm for instances doesn’t mean that alternatives arent available.
Blizzard doesn’t control queues, only population cap. Server queues are entirely made by player choice.
Blizzard can handle queue’s by increasing the server size. The more resources devoted the more people that can play at once. Simple as that. It is entirely up to them. Layering has not reduced my enjoyment, it only increased it, because I did not have to struggle to complete a quest because 10 other people were doing it, leaving dungeon grinding as the only option.
Their entire plan for a smooth transition to remove layers banked on the idea that most players were going to quit Classic after a month or two.
So yeah the plan from the beginning very much stank with “you think you do but you don’t”.
Me too. I have never, ever said anything in support of layers, which I have never, ever supported.
I first encountered layers on the stress test, and the realm I was on had a weird feature of layering where some of us could not see NPCs in Undercity. It was pretty immersion breaking.
To be honest, I don’t think Blizzard are using Classic to get people to go back to Retail. I can’t speak for others, but playing Classic has made me realize how much I hate Retail… and I logged into retail every day before Classic came out.
Take your transfers or take your queues.
There has been a sharp drop-off in players. The main problem is they allowed too many people to sign up on a too limited number of realms. No locked realms during name reservations and at launch, remember?
Source? Otherwise I call bull.
It’s time to take off the tinfoil hat.
I’m sure the server size was determined based on resources, otherwise layering would never have needed to be instigated at all.
Also wouldn’t increasing server size be contradictory to your next statement that you enjoyed having less competition for nodes/mobs with layering than having fuller servers?
Uptick in “i quit” threads.
Uptick in “dead realm” threads
And the most compelling one: the realms with layers permanently disabled.
I thought exactly the same thing. Dont trust Blizz at all.
Could be, never know. I like layers and luckily my two servers I play on have them as they’re crowded.
TIL that Blizzard keeping their promise to remove layers is sabotage.
There are no “dead realms.” If anything more people are subbing now.
If you simply check the real lists at prime time almost every server is full except 4.
The only servers without layering are the runoff servers. Earthfury is a runoff server with no layering, and it is packed at prime time.
