A dish from your culture you’d like to share

Just a fun positive thread  These threads usually go well and I learn a lot about other cultures so join in!

For me, one of my favorites is a wonderful dessert called Cranachan which is a Scottish dessert of cream, berries and oats with whiskey! My Grandma has always made it for me since I was little when we visit her in Scotland. What about you?

Hmmm delicious little honey cakes. Very bad for a T2 Diabetic so I dont get to eat them now but a yummy treat from my youth. We have a very healthy Lebanese population who taught us the joys of Baklava, Tabouli and Hommos and other such yummies.

Probably Haluski. It’s egg noodle, butter, onion and fried cabbage. It’s so yummy! It’s like the dish that takes me back home. Deviled eggs would be a close second.

I’m a Greek vegetarian so was banished from my culture.

However, I did manage to memorise a recipe for Melomakarouna.

Sweet biscuity goodness I just can’t denounce.

Lots of my family are of Greek descent, including my nieces and nephews so my family was taught to appreciate Greek food. A favorite dish of my sister and I is Youvalarkia. She has to only phone me and say “Im making meatball soup, you want in?” and Im round there like Im the Flash.

I know what my hubby wants now! LOL

My favorite is stuffed cabbage. We’re Ukrainian, we make ours with tomato based sauce.

Haha, nice!

Greeks do indeed like to put an emphasis on eating.

I grew up with those too, and an array of exotic food I took for granted at the time.

Can’t say they were a favourite though, just a means to an end for desert!

probably Philippine’s most notorious entree

I’m eating biscuits and hamburger gravy for dinner.

OMG I used to love those but no one near me makes them anymore (sad gnome face).

Mine would be a good old fashioned chocolate chip cookie lol (big surprise).

Pineapple pizza was bad enough, but

Is taking things too far.

I’m glad there aren’t any Greek restaurants within 50 miles of me or I’d go broke on this stuff.

I’m a break down of three, so I’ll give a dish for each of my ethnicities:

Galaktoboureko: it’s a Greek custard dessert. One of my favs.

Grandma’s Lasagna: self explanatory :+1:

Mansaf: it’s an Arabic lamb and rice dish. I grew up eating lamb and goat, which many people don’t like.
