"A delayed game is eventually good"

…“But a bad game is bad forever.”

Sincerely,
Nintendo

You guys remember when Metroid Prime 4 got delayed, development got restarted, and the reins were given to Retro Studios?

I didn’t mind that one bit. Not at all. In fact, I was super thankful for it.

I could say the same thing for Shadowlands. I don’t want an underdeveloped game.

I’m all in favor of delaying games until they are done right, but that quote isn’t really true anymore. We have the internet now so games can be updated. Many games have launched poorly and eventually been very good.

It’s not significant enough of a delay to make that much of a difference.

A delay worked out pretty great for Animal Crossing. Wish they felt the same way about Pokemon. If any game could use some delays in development, it’s a mainline Pokemon game.

Anyways, hope it turns out for Blizzard!

Duke nukem disagrees :stuck_out_tongue:

Its entirely possible to understand that the delay was a good idea, be upset that the delay was needed because they ignored mountains of feedback from months ago, and be disappointed all at the same time.

Bruh preach it! I’m a die hard pokemon fan.

Everything after sun and moon has been awful.

Remember Fallout 76?

At launch, the game was a complete disaster.

You can’t simply use the “We’ll just update it” card. It took Bethesda two years to finish it after launch.

By then, when Blizzard decides to update Shadowlands, a chunk of the player base is already gone.

Its not good marketing practice.

Only problem is they will not fix it. It will have same issues like before

I don’t think any of us want another BFA on our hands. I’m good with the delay.

I knew Duke Nukem Forever would be brought up. To be fair, that game went through multiple studios for 15 years…

I was so hyped for this, and then incredibly disappointed.

But ultimately, once I reached the acceptance stage, I realized this was 100% the right call. Retro will do an amazing job.

This is only half-true. You only ever get one first impression.

If they made Warcraft 3 Reforged into the same quality that Starcraft 2 is in, do you really think it will erase the months of terrible publicity that game got at launch?

The fans who left are gone and it will forever be a stain on Warcraft III’s legacy.

You can’t just patch that out.

The second half of it is that they have to actually make a good game and not just be Duke Nukem Forevering it.

but as a general rule yes: Better to delay the game to make it good rather than release it in a bad state. People will forget about the delay much easier than they will a poor launch state.

Not to mention they did a stellar job with MP1, 2 and 3.

They all received a score of 9+/10

But the stigma will always remain.

Sure Fallout 76 can improve itself as much as it wants, it’s still a joke to me.

Or just delay a game forever and it can remain perfect forever!!

Totally not looking at Star Citizen…

Don’t have to release a game if you can sell concept art for thousands of dollars.

FF15 still sucked despite taking a decade to make.
