A Deaf Raiding Guild was just forced into retirement due to the addon bans

Wait so the deaf raiding guild can’t see the highly visible boss ability manager with the new UI and know what is about to come?? Or they just don’t want to? Sounds like a lack of effort.

OP is just making stuff up.

Apparently not that much. It’s more customizable name plates, a very minor DBM like system and damage meters, as well as a cooldown manager.

You will be able to customize your cooldowns and track debuffs on enemies and there will be a damage meter. However what you won’t be able to do is have addons tell you with big red text and honking sounds what to do here. Which is the way things should have been to begin with.

i swear nobody reads. those addons are being disabled BECAUSE ITS BEING OFFICIALLY IMPLEMENTED INTO THE GAME!

Every time Blizzard has ever officially implemented addon features to the detriment of the addon itself, it has been a stripped down version of the addon’s functionality that leaves out many things the original could do.

We’ve already seen that recently with Rotation Assist vs Hekili and other rotation helpers.

We’ve already seen that recently with Cooldown Manager vs Weakauras. Completely incomparable.

If Blizzard massively improves replacement features, AND QUICKLY, awesome, great, but people have very little faith in that for frankly justified reasons.

I see posts like the ones below and remember that most of the population are people like this and they are actively able to vote, drive, etc. and it makes me sad.

Typing things out is a lot more of a process than simply communicating via your voice and ears. FFS.

Sure, you can play with your sound off, but you’re also able to listen to your raid leader explain the fights, listen to voice commands during the battle, and in general communicate a lot easier than someone who is DEAF.

That’s very unfortunate for them. I hope that Blizzard can get in touch with addon creators to work on incorporating accessibility addons into base game functionality.

Still doesn’t mean that removing these addons isn’t a net good for game design.

Why? It’s not even live yet.

so what would the name of this deaf raiding guild be …troll

The deaf guild used weak auras a method to communicate with each other during mythic raid boss encounters.

This was already explained:

they’ve been raiding for a long time and are an awesome group. This is really really sad. Blizz needs to stay away from addons and the amazing communities that they have helped us form.

Source? :person_shrugging:

The raid lead of the guild specifically said that WoW’s unprecedented support for addons enabled their community to craft tools specifically tailored to their niche issues. It really sucks they’re going to lose that unless Blizz reverses course.

Extremely controversial take that I’ll likely be flagged into oblivion for, but I think trying to hide behind the disabled to push your own parochial concerns re: addons is really gross, and that is a lot of what’s going on here.

In the case of niche communities, like deaf people, they’re likely to ignore the issue altogether because it doesn’t meaningfully impact their bottom line.

Why do deaf people need addons. You can play the entire game, including mythic raiding and high keys with no sound whatsoever.

I mean we don’t even know what the UI is going to look like so how would they make that decision now?

I’m also really concerned about accessibility but I don’t think we should assume we know what features they’ll make available.

Communication, callouts, etc
