A Deaf Raiding Guild was just forced into retirement due to the addon bans

No, it is not. It’s specifically why things like the building guidelines created by the Americans with Disabilities Act exist.

Go read through the /r/wow stickied megathread of people telling their stories about how addons have made the game accessible for them. I bet you wouldn’t have even considered a significant number of use cases listed in that thread.

Yes i hope they do this, i understand blizz wanting to move away from add ons and weak auras but people wish disabilities shouldn’t be forced to stop playing because of it. Blizzard should work more closesly with guilds like that or even see if there are organizations whos work involves accessibility features for gaming

In the Reddit thread the gm of undaunted said they use weak auras to flash messages on the screen during boss fights because they can’t use voice comms. They can’t stop mid fight and type out a raid warning. These are the types of things blizz is removing with no replacement announced.

Well that sucks, but stay the course blizzard.

I think it is hilarious that the OP has so many likes when it is clearly a lie.

It shows how dishonest these Combat Add On defenders can be.

That seems to be exactly the case :

Quick Google search:
Arachnophobia affects an estimated 2.7% to 15% of the global population

As for accessibility, for some people addons are accessibility. And if those are effected then Blizzard is removing accessibility.

0.00001%? More than 1/4 adults in US have type of disability.

He’s correct, the base UI is terrible for disability people. Have you seen how slow they move with the cooldown manager? No wonder why we don’t trust them to create the replacements in a time

This is the root of the issue here. This isn’t just about addons. It’s about player agency. I’m not going to subscribe to a game or support a company that doesn’t respsect player agency.

I’m going to be really curious what happens starting Monday with the way this blew up over the weekend. If they start immediately relaxing more addon restrictions then it’s a positive sign. If they double down, then I may just leave early and not worry about my remaining game time.

They’ll relax some things.

That’s Blizzard 101: Announce something draconian, there’s an uproar, then announce a “compromise” which was their real target from the beginning.

And then everyone talks about how “reasonable” Blizzard is being taking away things from people, because they put a ton of lipstick on that pig.

just remember their compromise could be delayed as far as the last patch of the expansion, and grudgingly implemented.

The first pathfinder.

Players had agency to address their own accessibility needs as they liked before. Now they don’t. This clearly isn’t a good move.

Where did the guild say they’re going to retire?

Wait, you need a weakaura to kill heroic fractillus? Since when?

The people railing against addons are astonishingly bad at the game.

I did H Fractillus without Weak Auras twice yesterday and twice today. I did it 7 times just this lock out…. (I got 6 H bosses on 7 Characters this week for the Vault, so far)

But thanks for the well wishes.

This fantasy that weak auras are necessary is something Blizzard can finally dispel.

I’ve never killed H fractillus with the WA, but natty H fractillus would be a logistical nightmare if it were more punishing. I just can’t help but wonder how they envisioned the fight was supposed to be done

edit for context: we power through a lot of it with HPS

WOW. What an insensitive, uncaring thing to say… They’re people and should be able to enjoy the same things that other people enjoy. How would you like it if you couldn’t enjoy an activity because you were differently abled and no one else cared? It doesn’t matter if they’re a “minority” (which I have doubts if that’s even accurate).

Raid warnings can be prepared with macros, don’t be unreasonable here. The WA also has to be prepared beforehand.

I believe there’s no sensitive way to explain it, but it’s a legitimate discussion that shouldn’t be avoided just because it could hurt someone’s feelings. The question is whether the evolution and health of the game should be completely sacrificed so a very small amount of individuals can continue to play - or not even that, for a lot of them it would probably “just” mean that they can’t continue meaningful raid progress.
I completely empathize with the affected players, really. I personally don’t even really care whether or not combat addons are here or not, I would be fine with keeping them. But it’s a complicated discussion.

OP is straight up lying.

Especially when those people already have a working community made solution to their issues which Blizzard is taking away!!!
