Why is that relevant anyway though? If the only content a casual player does is the open world content wouldn’t it be more fun for it to be a bit of challenge as compared to the faceroll it is in aforementioned mythic gear?
We aren’t even testing yet… tons of stuff is subject to change
It doesn’t. Because the people who want only.this gear aren’t ever interested in higher content or sometimes no raids at all.
People were hitting tier 6 in July. One month. And the new gear upgrades as well.
Normal raid gear equivalent for a solo casual doesn’t affect you.
I see this asked often, probably by people who dont play casually.
Casual doesnt mean always doing content that has zero level of difficulty. If you are taking on a world boss, doing content that requires greater survivability, etc, then having decent gear makes your general play a lot more fun. And fun is, after all, what a game is supposed to be about.
(Edited to make grammatical sense)
So much gear-keeping in this thread…
I will admit though, I do not understand this fascination with making certain gear 3 ilvls or in the case of current valor upgradable gear, 6 ilvls below the max gear level. I believe the theory behind it is it stops you from gearing out too fast as well as keeps the vault at least marginally relevant. The vault is a bad system though and generally always has been. It converts doing content directly to get the gear you want to doing a set of set chores in order to get a chance at the best level of the gear you’d want. A very low chance.
Why not either drop the vault or actually make it so you can grind an item you want to the appropriate level with some currency (valor, badges, whatever). Why not take the rng out of it more (let’s say in the case the vault is kept) where you could get lucky and loot the max ilvl version of it out of a system like the vault or…you could loot it and upgrade it with currency that scales upwards. Just have the costs scale insanely high at higher levels so that it is more rewarding to do the tougher content version of it and try to get lucky than to just loot a base item and upgrade it but failing to get lucky, you could in fact loot a lower version of it and upgrade it as well.
They do this and everyone wins.
Lol, well played.
If we got a full set of 249 just from doing the introductory quests with no RNG and no grinding (like the 9.0 covenant sets), then I would be on board with that.
But knowing the devs, it will probably take months of farming outdoor content to maximize the Zereth Mortis gear, and it may not even be 249 in every slot.
So let me be clear: If devs expect casual players to grind (more challenging) outdoor content for months, then we do deserve at least upper Normal rewards, as we got in Korthia.
(I never said or thought Mythic even once. Even if Torghast dropped gear, it should probably be capped at Heroic.)
Have a feeling like usual most progression raiders will have moved beyond normal modes, and be starting to push heroic in a matter of a few weeks anyways. So normal mode will be pretty much irrelevant to a good portion of progress raiders except for alts. All said, and done it’s not hurting anything besides some fee fee’s, if outdoor content via wq’s, dailies etc drops normal mode stuff. If it’s capped at normal they will be fine. Thought all this nonsense would be put to rest when they did away with war, and titan forging, but I guess not
Aah the smell of sweaty elitist in the morning. There’s nothing like it.
Really though, current Korthia gear goes up to ilvl 233 and it makes no sense why the new casual gear would start at a lower ilvl.
with the amount of gating in place to prevent casuals from being fully decked out in a week, is it really a problem if the content from open world is on par with normal gear? using korthia as an example, it took the average player nearly 2 months before they unlocked rank 6 upgrade for the max item level. a progression system that gave these players(myself included) a path for getting decent gear without making normal tier sanctum irrelevant.
but you wont get the gear you are paying for. If you want a hard barrier between play styles have a higher subscription fee for the one that rewards better.
Yeah, this is what I’m thinking as well. You’ll need to farm outdoor content for months AND get lucky with world boss drops AND still supplement missing item slots via PvP or M+. I don’t know what ilvl LFR is currently planned for in 9.2, but so far LFR gear has been at best equal, if not worse, then gear obtained via open world content in terms of ilvl (at least that I’ve seen).
They did horrible this expansion. One alt I have is level 54. The doomwalker drops are lower i level than the pre patch ice crown drops. Horrible.
So I can one shot trash and acquire currency.
The difference imo between a casual getting to the best gear, if they did make scaling currency upgrades a thing, and a non casual or elite raider or pvper or whatever; would be in the mode of achieving their good or bis gear. For a casual it would become achievable but heavily time gated like say it may take 3-4 months but 3-4 months of regular arduous grinding would get them where they need to be in terms of their bis gear. Comparitively, an elite player would do raids or pvp and would in fact get their bis or good gear much much faster. A good not great player would otoh be able to do a mixture of both to get some gear via rng and other gear by grinding it up (kinda like it is now with m+ pieces supplementing raid gear heavily and likewise supplementing pvp gear heavily till you get good rating).
The problem that raiders would have with this (and have always had with this) is that it makes the casual content feel non optional. So the thing they’d have to do with this currency is to also let it drop from the content they are doing themselves. The PvP system does all of these things really well by the way already.
Edit: also they could do with upping gear droprates within raid. This wouldn’t kill them to do since it would open the game up much more to play alts or try new things instead of gating it like it did pre 9.1.5
You want what’s almost a full set of Mythic Sanctum gear by doing an introductory quest line?
That’s pretty silly.
The ultra casuals only doing world content are not the only ones we’re talking about here. Sure, maybe they never want to touch higher content. That’s fine. But what about those who DO want to? Should they not be appropriately rewarded for going above and beyond what the former are doing?
People always like to cry from the rooftops “you should just be playing for fun, who cares about the rest?”, but you know what? If something is fun AND rewarding, it’s better. That’s my baseline. It has to be both. (and no, that doesn’t negate that I want the reward to be tied to the difficulty. Part of being rewarded is working for it)
If Normal Raiding and equivalent levels of M+ are going to exist, they need to be rewarding a step above World Content / Queued Content. If they’re not, the reward system is broken.
Fun detected. Prepare to terminate threat. Preparations complete. Execution in 10… 9… 8…
So basically what you want is for the overwhelming majority of players to be stuck at a low ilvl that they can’t break out of without paid carries or help from good friends who are willing to give them those carries. Because LFD doesn’t give anyone the gear they need to move into raiding.
