9.0 is actually 8.4

I enjoyed Legion, but when you look at BfA, how very similar was that in compaired to Legion and how awful did that feel?

I am not saying SL is going to be a bad expansion, because there was really not much that was revealed, but with what was revealed, and the videos that were posted of some of the gameplay from Blizzcon, it does look very similar to Legion and BfA. (Just minus the Artifacts.)

I like your optimism but I really feel like they went over as much as they could with the expansion to generate hype for those prepurchases.

I am not looking forward to it even with BFA being as bad as it is. I feel like we are losing out on content over the level squish and class fixes (if you want to call it that).

It does really look lacking and not a fan at all of more borrowed power. If they want to implement systems like this just give us alternate abilities points like many other MMO’s use. Something they could build upon each expansion instead of taking it away. Players are going to be a lot more interested in grinding something that stays with you.

I keep saying it, but Shadowlands isn’t an expansion - it’s a new game based on the old one. WoW 2.0. The level squish alone makes it a major revision, not to mention the new, consolidated, 1-10 leveling experience.

Beyond that, we simply don’t have enough information to say if we’re going to see class/spec “overhauls”. Blizzard’s pattern for our characters, since Pandaria at least, has been to remove something so they can recycle it and “add” it back, which is mostly what I expect to happen with Shadowlands, using the excuse of the level squish to say we don’t need “new” talent rows or abilities. Which, technically, I guess is true, but will still sting many long time players. The major revisions required for a successful level squish are likely going to take the majority of development’s effort, which could already explain the rather sparse plan of only four zones at Shadowlands launch.

On a final note, the current developer team appears very committed to certain ideas, like some variant of artifact power to mandate consistent play. So again, don’t expect too many changes there. I can almost guarantee we’ll have a mission table in Shadowlands, as they’ve been using “complete X follower mission” or “complete Y number of follower missions” as a way of gating us at various times. I also expect, given that “Corrupted gear” seems to consolidate all the negatives of Azerite gear, that we’ll have some sort of constant “one step forward, two steps back” upgrade process beyond item level upgrades.

The best thing players can do is be vocal about what they do and don’t want to see NOW - we’ve been shown time and again that Alpha/Beta testing is too late. And if you’re skeptical, like many, don’t commit to playing the new game until we start seeing how things look mid Beta testing.

BfA’s problem was replacing artifact weapons with a system that hadn’t been thought through and was more grindy with the expectation that players would just accept it. That, and seriously botching up gear power and content progression with half of what the game offered being irrelevant right out of the gate (how many of us skipped dungeons and heroics pretty much entirely)?

If it had just been Legion+ I think it would have been received much better, but the devs twiddled with the knobs and it backfired.

Sometimes less is more. Look at BfA. It added on the Legion systems and it was complete disaster. Returning to a simpler game, especially in regards to gear has me excited. Oh and btw… the game is still in alpha. At least wait til beta to start crying.

Eh I feel like they just weren’t ready to show us more of whats planned. Which is worrying in terms of release date but I’m still pretty psyched.

I’m a little disapointed in torghast - I want a new mage tower, not “scaleable bring whoever you want”. It should be either solo a raid boss like real mage tower or holy trinity based. Horrific Vsions look to have the same problem.

While I fully get and appreciate your pov on this, I disagree. When you were done with mage tower, that was it. You were done. This at least has replay ability.

For me the big looming question is, how much fun is that replay ability. And for that, only time will tell.

Endless dungeon, all content counting towards rewards, establishing m+ as a legit end game alongside m raiding, the choices involved in the new renta-a-Power system seem fun, at least in theory. The lack of new talent row and the lack of a new class make me sad, but opening up a new avenue of armor with wings/packs COULD be cool. If they add flying animations to all the races, that would be even cooler.

I’m eager to see what they have planned for professions, the tease is strong with this expansion.

New Classes, Spec “overhauls” and new races are not what make a new expansion, a new expansion.

Mage tower also had a problem with some specs basically requiring a certain level of gear to be completed while other specs were total pushovers. Hopefully Torghast is more consistent between classes/specs.

In other news water is wet and BFA is poopoo stinky

You’re getting a talent row with the four ability options available to you within covenants.

Not everything has to be within the talent row to be seen as a talent row.

If anything, they’ve done a poor job of explaining what’s actually in this expansion. The “features” trailer was really bare bones.

I haven’t actually preordered yet. Not sure if I will.

Oh my god. Seriously people?!
“I gotta have a new class or race for it to be a new expansion” NEVERMIND THE FACT THAT THERE’S MORE CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS GETTING PUT IN! Oooooh no that’s not enough.
Oh 4 new zones each with their own stories and such? NOT ENOUGH
Oh a scalable dungeon that’s part of the end game content? NOT ENOUGH
Oh a whole new leveling type… Still not enough!

They could add a whole friggen planet and you guys would still say it’s not enough.

Let’s not get way ahead of ourselves. It’s in early development.

We may not be getting new races, or a new class, but ditching BfA’s ill-conceived systems (Azerite traits, the AP grind) alone seems like cause to celebrate.

Well, we do, because Ion clearly stated at Blizzcon that there WOULD BE NO class/spec overhauls.

Except it’s just becoming Anima Power (AP).

If those four ability options aren’t part of a permanent row (they aren’t) then it’s not a new talent row.

“yeah there’s a 1:1 scale planet to explore but what about my new class”

I think SL CAN be a good xpac. I like the idea behind the tower dungeon and cant wait to try. Being alt friendly again is good. Please god bring us pvp venders like we’ve been asking for, forever now. They said they will give specs that are lacking some love (meantioned sub rogue), getting some class abilities/talents back that shouldnt have been taken in the first place.

Would like to see another talent row. REALLY dislike more borrowed powers. They can repeat the same crap they’ve done since legion which is leave a spec brken and “fix it” with artifact power/azurite traits/essences. Thats crap blizz, fix ur game.
