Help me understand - in your mind anyone who calls out a flaw in the way Blizz manages it’s servers is “crying” ? Fascinating…
As for it only inconveniencing me… there were more than a few other players in world at the same time, pretty sure Blizz pulled the rug out on all of them.
That I need to shutdown? Like my entire business? That’s not how IT works. Finance can still do finance offline while the servers are under maintenance just like devs can still code in their offline IDE’s and push everything up when the server containing the repo is up.
Now to be fair ,op does have a point if I were watching a movie with some buddies and the show is cut short at the end by 15 minutes ,we’ll be angry too.
Ah man…what a crappy week. Oh well at least I can get this in before reset as long as it goes well. Oh…well fml I guess I’m not getting this done. Thanks big company that evidently can’t tell time or bother to tell us in advance they changed their minds about a time frame they have posted multiple places.
Your assumption of why other people chose to do things in the window allotted to them is supercilious and unhelpful.
I worked with and in IT for many years. A shutdown that occurred 15 minutes before it was advertised would have been unacceptable. I did know a few people that thought it was “all good” and “users had plenty of time” every one of them was fired for screwing something up because of that thinking.
A minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. Everyone is entitled to feel however they want to feel but this is a 1st world problem. There are much bigger issues out there than Bliz shutting down servers 15 minutes early on a maintenance day. Although this is what the forums are for right? Complaining? Generally about very small and insignificant things?
You sir have never worked in IT for a fortune 500 company. Finance and dev are very different divisions. Most coders have entirely independent testing environments that allow them to work while the primary systems are down. Finance however NEEDS access to corporate data - you shut that down ahead of schedule and I promise you there will be hell to pay.
The thing here is it’s SO EASY to perform the shutdown ON TIME. That they constantly do it early, while lots of players are still in world is in indication of unprofessional IT management.
It’s not a “Big Deal”, but it is indicative of the way Blizz operates. Just no good reason for it to happen.
If they are going to consistently shutdown 15 minutes early then just say so in the maintenance notice.
Assuming there’s even that many still subscribed, I think you meant more like a few dozen… and every single one of them had 6 days to not have this situation happen. It’s entirely on these last minute andies.
