I’m rank 7 with elite extermination as a holy pally and I was able to get 4 pages without thrall pretty easily. Yeah you skip the gear but your cloak gets an upgrade.
It was only after, that I realized I only needed two pages >.<
Either way it’s not that bad, just work at it and get some help/addons to assist you in making the run as smooth as possible.
Regardless of whether the individual can clear all 4 areas in one run or not, lets not skip over the fact that it’s now more difficult to get lvl 8,9,and 10 than it is to get 11-15. Which is the most Blizzard thing ever.
Elite extermination talent is practically required for full clear. Higher cloak rank is helpful for slow sanity drain but the real perk is that one. At rank 5 you should be able to clear the two easier areas, but for sure at least on or them.
Also fury is a great spec for HV, dont need to change ththat.
My shaman, because when I first put points in didn’t know what to put them in, was at rank 8 tonight without elite extermination. I took it to rank 11 in 3 runs doing full clears (the last being the easiest cause I had elite extermination at that point). The only thing that makes 13-15 “easier” is having more progression on the tech tree. That’s it. You can still achieve 1 rank for 1 run if you do all four zones (you don’t have to do final boss to get the pages). 🤷 It’s the same difficulty it was a week ago, it just doesn’t mean you have to do it 2-3 times a rank full clearing.
Each level is easier then the prior, the hardest being the first. It’s a very weird system that you think would get harder, not easier. It lets you feel you are “so much better” than you were when you started, but play an alt and go “oh yeah, this was hard then” haha.
The real buff is more or less at 10+ when most characters/specs will only require 1 run to do a full clear(I should clarify that the chars/specs etc shouldn’t have any issues doing a full clear).
It’s a bit more iffy below 10 for sure. Not everyone is a “pro” and might not even have Elite Extermination unlocked(especially now).
I noticed this as well - my Horrific Visions felt challenging, up 'til a breakpoint where they just … weren’t anymore (masks aside). Like I got a certain upgrade in the tree, and it just trivialized everything to the point where mask-free runs were more of a timesink than a challenge.
It’s a very strange difficulty curve, really. I think as far as non-mask runs go, the first few were the most challenging - and that mostly comes down to the severely limited time you have to complete them.
To elaborate: I went from using all three orbs and skirting just barely through a full clear, to doing it only using one, or even none at all. All after a single upgrade! I certainly didn’t get any better in that time.
It wasn’t hard since most people who were pushing hard had already played visions on the PTR and knew how they worked. It also helps quite a bit if you’re geared(ie you do at least heroic raiding and high keys). Most videos that early on were from demon hunters and outlaw rogues I believe? I think I saw a prot paladin doing some work too at some point but these players were very well geared!
For the more “common” player it’s going to be a bit harder to do a full clear for sure. Heck, I’ve seen people fail on the first run.
It is simple to do a full clear at 13,14,15 it is a bit more challenging at 8,9,10 and this doesn’t matter about skill. They should have reduced the things required at 8,9,10 to all be only two areas.
