8.3 Needs Better Catchup and Less Chores

It is impossible for me to enjoy any alts at this point because of The essence/cloak/neck grind.

What are we talking about when you mention power progression exactly? Because my main got rank 1 Infinite stars on a pair of 420 boots(very first vision at the start of the patch) and even after the nerfs they still sim higher than the 6 pairs of 445 boots the DH has in its bags.

Actually, for some, when you are able to run multiple classes, alts, the game opens up more and keeps us around. I played the most when alts were only hindered by gear and nothing more. The past expansions that have been unfriendly to alts has been where I have unsubbed the most.

The only reason I am subbed now is Classic, which doesnt mean anything to blizzard because they are getting their money but my love for the base game, retail, is dead and rotting at this point.

I will guarantee you that I will get AoTC on 8.3 without stepping to 8.2 Eternal Palace. I’m not into World First stuff. And I will do all of these all on Dungeon Finder.

When it comes to gear the catch-up system is fine. However it doesn’t matter when you have essences that needs grinding. This late into the expansions they should have made the essences account bound, period. I think they regret it themselves. Right now it doesn’t even matter the expansion is out in a bit more than half a year. 8.3 just feels really lazy.

Imagine when you are playing this patch nearly a year from now. Good luck.

I think you’re the one who is missing the mark here. No one is asking for catchup to instantly make alts equal to mains. Getting rank 3 essences more easily will not magically make alts = mains just like BoA Legendaries didn’t make alts = mains.

You’re forgetting about the actual gear that one has to get and the effort that’s required with the current 3 layers deep RNG that’s involved.

Back in Legion, doing the campaign was at least different from class to class. There is going to be nothing different or interesting about grinding out Uldum rep for the fifth time.

People are rightfully speaking out against the artificial tedium that Blizzard has introduced into the game.

The people who love cleaning toilets all day before they can go outside and play are gonna come tell you they love it.

Yeah, I’m not doing stupid uldum dailies every day for a month for an essence. sorry.

Gave up on 8.3 myself op. Just not having fun at all in it. I mean I’m glad that there are some folks enjoying 8.3, horrific visions, and having to wash their gear just to be able to equip it, but willing to bet that there are just as many that are not enjoying this patch also. Made the mistake of doing the opening quest for 8.3 on a few alts, but ever since it seems they don’t get just regular upgrades now, it mostly getting corrupted, and cant use it, because it attacks you lol. They are just trying to shoehorn people into that cleansing washing gear bs. Guess I just prefer gear just being gear instead of all this corruption system titan forge, wf, etc bs. Tbh imo they just made this new gearing corruption system to much of a headache for a lot of people to even want to fool with. Most of the characters I play have been in the 400 to 415 item level area anyways before 8.3, so luckily I don’t have to touch 8.3 at all. Unless they boost the item level of store boosted characters before SL drops, you wont need much better than 390 gear to get a decent start in Shadowlands anyways. Got back into playing Starcraft 1, and 2 with some friends as of late, and not really missing wow, so it’s all good.

I wish I could give you all my hearts for the day. You summed it up perfectly! People coming back shouldn’t expect to be in the high end mythically whether for raid or dungeons at all. It does take work and ramp up, always has shy of a carry.

But anyhow since I can’t upvote you more here’s a rainbow of hearts for ya! :white_heart: :black_heart: :brown_heart: :purple_heart: :blue_heart: :green_heart: :yellow_heart: :orange_heart:

It’s ironic that, despite the seasonal nature of content that makes everything previous functionally obsolete, we still have to perform meaningless, timegated chore content to get ourselves up to speed.

It’s not the worst thing ever, but it’s just … not fun. Especially not fun enough to pay $15 a month, consistently, to perform.

I’m not saying it’s the worst ever - I’m currently subbed, after all, but it’s more for the content that comes after the chores, than the chores themselves.

I will say that I am not happy with the current ‘season’ style of gear resets. I was a big fan of Vanilla and TBC where gear was good for an expansion. The issue using the old model is it shuts out a lot of people from newer content since they would have to go through the old content leading up to it. IDK what the answer is but how it is now is definitely not good.

Some people might like these.

They just did, people doing these daily have their rank 3s now.

Takes less than a week, if playing the game for a week is painful for a new player, then they should find a game more to their liking.

Agree wholeheartedly. Have 2 friends come back in the past 2 weeks, one is already rocking rank 2 essences, having no issues, the other is still parsing great with only one essence and just working towards getting better gear.

You know the common thing with both of them? Neither is complaining about the grind. It’s funny, most want it for no other reason than they did it once before. The catch up mechanics they added makes it so much easier than what it once was and still everyone wants more.

Won’t happen I’m sure they sit around a table discussing how to stretch out bad content then good content to keep people subbed so sad. Its now not about enjoyment its about making them as much money as they can. Our opinion means nothing to them. Its goes back to their attitude off “” Don’t you have a Phone “” They literally don’t care. They have NEVER NEVER listen to feed back or done anything suggested. Pre Xpacs.

I’d definitely take this over the old style nowadays - at the very least, I’m not locked out of everything for the crime of playing casually, but that doesn’t mean it’s good, either.

WoW doesn’t exist in a vacuum - I think it’s perfectly fair to compare it to other games, even if just anecdotally. Heck, much of WoW’s (arguably Blizzard’s) success came from doing what other games did: just better.

If repeating dull-as-dishwater world quests every day for a week is ‘playing the game’ now, maybe they should…

There’s nothing wrong with repeating content. But the sort of content that needs to be repeated, at the moment, isn’t fun to repeat. It has no difficulty, no novelty, no sense of exploration - just a checklist one fills every day. I understand there are people who love filling out checklists, but when you essentially have to, to get your character to a certain state? That’s not right.

Yes, you can perform content without having level 3 essences. That still doesn’t make it a good thing that they’re locked behind such dull content, however. The visions are a step in the right direction, at the very least.

Thanks for the tip.

you have plenty of time since there is nothing else for the rest of the year until pre patch.
