Lightening Lasso is hitting for 48 percent damage and can’t be dispelled , flame shock is hitting for longer . Icefury along with frost can make Ele Shaman even useful during movement .
So far, I have a new single target option (per sims) and a new mobility option (ice fury) that is better than what my previous best single target option was.
Icefury is simming higher for me on patchwerk than what I was simming previously in 8.0 using my ideal talent set up.
I sim higher with both surge of power and icefury than I do with primal ele. Which I love. I hate so much damage being tied to a pet that can go braindead.
Woah, that’s big news. I’m not the best DPS, and movement almost gaurunteed I was gonna flop, so this is huge.
I’m glad we have options other than primal ele.
All three talents on that row will have its niche. I dont think a single one will be a “talent and forget” option. I think Surge or PE will have more versatility, but that row will end up being very strong for each talent, depending on the situation.
Hmmm no matter what I do I can’t get Surge to sim better in ST than PE for me
Each build will most likely favor didn’t stat and azerite priorities, so the “best” talents for you will depend on what gear you currently have access to.
I dont know that OP is talking about, Ele got way more options now depending on what you doing.
15 row: Yeah Earthen Rage is the best one, but Elemental Blast gets competitive if you stack natural harmony traits.
30 row: Totem mastery for ST and Cleave, Aftershock for AOE.
60 row: Storm Elemental is the best choice, but Magma totem still competitive and even better for short term burst and cleave. Master of the Elements is actually good if you pair it with Icefury.
90 row: Surge of Power is pretty damn good in ST, Primal Elementalist still good in ST and beast for AOE burst. Icefury is competitive if you take into account that is for a more mobile build and you pair it with Master of the Elements.
100 row: Yeah Stormkeeper is the only good one here, but personally im not even mad. I always hated Ascendance and i like unlimited power but with High Voltage gone i don’t think it’s worth.
Re: Elemental Blast
I really do enjoy applying all the elements in combat as a part of the class fantasy. It sounds like there’s a bit of dependence upon Azerite armor traits for certain talents, such as Natural Harmony. It might open up some avenues for playstyle discovery, particularly as power levels grow, there might be a statistical break or inversion point.
I think it’s rather upsetting to hear that the passive talent, Earthen Rage, of the row is the best option.
Maybe Elemental Blast didn’t have enough testers or theorycrafters looking at how the damage actually stacks up in the dps economy to report that it’s underperforming compared to the standard Lightning Bolt.
Re: Icefury
I think it’s still a bit weird that you have to take Master of Elements in order for Icefury to be good. It’s basically saying, this talent requires two talents to be truly competitive.
Re: Ascendance
Stormkeeper should have gone baseline. As soon as I heard when Hazzikostas asked that interviewer if he thought it was the right idea to have Stormkeeper as a talent, I exclaimed at my monitor that the interviewer should have said he’d prefer it baseline. I get it, not everything can be baseline, but it defined a core playstyle for an expansion. And now it’s just it is still an overshadowing ability compared to the others offering damage, aoe, and mobility on a relatively short cooldown. It is essentially spirit walkers grace for elemental. I, personally, couldn’t see Icefury and Stormkeeper being exclusive choices, so I think the shuffling of talent changes during the beta was on the right track.
Ascendance needs some love though, and Unlimited Power is waiting for the very end-game to shine (which is a shame and an odd design choice).
Agree all with you m8, really nice points you make.
I was just triying to say that OP is wrong when it comes to options, we have way more options for Ele right now that one day ago.
But yeah you make really good points and i can agree with you.
Eh, I mean we’re definitely stronger but they seem to have tried their very best to neuter the positive changes by forcing us into trade-offs to get them at every turn. Call of Thunder gives us a guaranteed triple ES maelstrom dump, but we have to give up Aftershock for it. Lightning Lasso seems pretty strong, but we lost Earthfury. Surge of Power offers between 18 and 54k non-crit damage to our burst rotation, but we give up Icefury for it which has just been buffed and is probably going to be too critical to our maelstrom generation to give up.
Ran N Uldir and h Uldir tonight and the dmg is definitely considerably higher. I did forget to log maybe someone in the group did for me.
Running 1/3/1/2/1/2/2
I simmed
Critical Strike 2.29
Intellect 2.05
Haste 2.01
Versatility 1.92
Mastery 1.20
- 1 point of Critical Strike will increase your DPS by 2.29
Right now i have Crit and Haste even over Int.
Yeah the damage is there.
Full N and H and 2/8 Mythic tonight and I am pleased on where I personally sit. Not crazy mastery has been left in the dust but I will get over it.
I imagine the OP like a lot of people use this as a place to express a bit of frustration.
There are design and balance improvements to be made, and given the complex environment, the level of desired performance is often a moving target.
It’s rather crazy trying to balance out the talents against each other when you’re comparing things like Primal Elementalist vs Icefury, but that’s one half decision-making space and one part discovery which make the game enjoyable.
I think that active abilities should be more powerful than passive ones, so the Earthen Rage out-performing Elemental Blast is weird, but the space remains interesting and possibly balanced considering secondary stats, Azerite trait, and possibly other interactions like trinkets or gear.
Right now, the most glaring issue I’d say that the talents have is the final row between Ascendance, Unlimited Power and Stormkeeper.
Since Ascendance is so often a ST PvE only ability. It feels like it could use a Warmode Talent that helps support that gameplay in PvP.
Unlimited Power is pretty disappointing and it’s design feels more like an Azerite power trait than a talent. At best when secondary stats start to flood gear, it’ll shine in end-game turning the class into a less interactive experience.
Elemental did indeed get a buff, however the lightning bolt buff I think wasn’t thought through very well. In a patchwork style fight elemental got a good buff. In a movement style fight elemental got a nerf. Before lightning bolt was so weak that moving and not casting lightning bolt didn’t hurt elemental dps very much. Now if elemental has to move we get severely punished in damage due to lightning bolt not getting cast. Its like Blizzard is taunting elemental shamans by making lightning bolt good, then punishing us for moving while denying us running lightning bolt.
The issue with Ascendance is that its an extremely outdated talent. It was designed back when Ele had very few spell rotation variety and its most important and hard hitting part was Lava Burst. At most we had Ele Blast and Unleash Elements so there wasnt much of an issue.
However the moment Ele moved from being ‘‘Lava Burst The Spec’’ Ascendance started losing power. In a sense its both a good and bad thing its no longer baseline. It regained a bit the moment Crit scaling was added into it and Legion added Smoldering Heart but even there it was full of design flaws and contradictions.
But its design’s sheer antiquity is stretched thin. It needs a rework bad. Lava Burst is both a shadow of what it was and more of a enabler of the rest of our kit. It needs to be a more generalistic - but still in line with Elemental - cooldown.
Loving the new ele. So glad i’m not longer forced to spec into Ascendance.
OK, my dmg for a single objective is pretty good, but I have problems in mythic+. I do not know what talents to use. Recommendations?
Use:
Earthen Rage/Ele Blast (easy passive damage vs better AoE because buffs)
Aftershock/Totem mastery (potential vs reliability)
Storm Elemental
Primal Elementalist (SE + PE give you a strong CD on your storm Ele)
Stormkeeper (obviously)
tis was a glorified hotfix bandaid, doesn’t fix the problems, just makes the problems less bad. makes you wonder why it took months to put in.
