Downvoting with my mind…
yeah there are plenty of excessively long grinds, my point was that time is not the determining factor whether a grind is good or not
I’d say that time between starting the achievement and finishing it is not the determining factor, time spent DOING it is.
If a grind takes a year, but it’s something you only have to spend a couple hours a month on, it’s not so bad.
But an achievement you can get in a month, but that takes hours upon hours upon hours of doing a repetitive task to accomplish is a much worse grind.
I disagree with what you’re saying here.
Pet PvP promotes competitive gameplay, and out-of-the-box thinking actually can give you the edge in this sphere.
If you approach the achievement thinking you can complete it over the weekend, and if you can’t it’s unreasonable, then your approach is all wrong.
It’s a long-term achievement you need to chip away at.
The meta is pretty solid right now, I’m seeing all sorts of different comps.
If you’re really struggling with one particular “OP” pet, you just need to slide a counter pet into your team.
I think “_______, The Very Best” is ok, but I’d prefer “Master _______”. A master pet battler deserves a master title.
“Master” feels much more like a generic title than “The Very Best”, which works well for pet battles, IMO. Plus, you’d probably just get people grinding out wins to they can change their name to “Baiter”.
Here’s another reward suggestion for the single most difficult achievement in WoW, (5000 pvp pet battle victories): Reward a toy similar to magic mirror but instead of making a miniature copy of your character, it allows you to transform one of your current collected mounts into a random mount you currently haven’t collected for 1 hr. with a 24 hr. cooldown. If you have all the mounts in the game, it just randomly transforms your mount for 1 hour with a 4 hr. cooldown. Seems reasonable to reward something unique like this since this is such a long grind.
I dunno about that, but what I would find awesome is to be able to choose one of our pets to make into a mount. That would be wicked. But that would involve graphics and development time, blah blah blah. It would be cool though. I’d be ok with just a title.
Oh, sorry you brought those up. Checked on my main, thought he’d done most everything and omg, so much left to do.
Only thing, these don’t affect other players. 5K PvP wins does. I know (online) and respect a friend who has done that, but she admits to getting worn down sometimes and just going with easiest and fastest way to grind wins out. This is hard on the newcomers who thought this’d be fun and get stomped repeatedly and just give it up.
So I continue to think a 5K achievement has been a bad thing for encouraging lot of players to get into pet PvP.
I don’t understand your point
If you argue that a 5k achievement doesn’t encourage new players, it’s not meant to encourage new players
If you mean, that new players run into ‘veterans’ who will just use cheese comps, that stuff will happen regardless… people will always try to find the best/cheesiest teams to win, the existence of a 5k achievement doesnt change that
Pvp is always competitive and losing isn’t the end of the world, good players will adapt and find ways to stop losing
If you cant see how steam rolling new players isn’t bringing new players in, then you need to really relook at the system.
I think the stigma that gets passed around of the queue being filled with bullies 24/7 is actually more harmful than those try-hard players themselves.
I could play against someone new(ish) to PVP with three mediocre pets, but if I execute my game plan exactly right, that person will look back at the loss and incorrectly assume I’m running OP pets that they just don’t know about yet. All because they’ve heard horror stories about good players exclusively running the best of the best.
I’ve said it before, this is the calmest the meta has ever been. Let’s not turn the queue into some haunted house full of demons.
If you cant see how steam rolling new players isn’t bringing new players in, then you need to really relook at the system.
new players will always be steamrolled by veteran players in a pvp environment, idk what you suggest to fix that
besides, this has nothing to do with the existence of a 5k achievement or the lack thereof
if new players want to stop losing, they just need to git gud
with a bit of research they can easily get a moronproof stall comp and without a single clue still win games
edit: we’re getting off topic
5k wins should definitely have a good reward to make it worth chasing
Everyone is so concerned about the title being a gigantic carrot dangling in front of players… the truth is, 5k pvp wins is so daunting, so time consuming, no one in their right mind would go for that achievement UNLESS they really, really like pvp pet battles. Full stop. Unless they bot, and it’s pretty obvious if they bot, they will give up and try some other game activity. No question.
Also, how about “____________, the Legendary”. It is, after all, for the Legendary Pet Battler achievement, right? Sounds wicked to me.
I like “The Legendary” as opposed to “the Very Best”.
I don’t see how that will be the case. The achievement would take so long, no one except pet enthusiasts would actually “go for it”. Even among pet enthusiasts, I can’t see many people trying. The people who already have 5k wins and those who are very close, will have it. those who don’t, won’t.
I don’t see this as hugely imbalancing.
