50 character limit

Ouch… Boi, need a Healstone for that?

Yea, Activision is a business, and $15 a month and $40 a year only goes so far. You ever seen the data of a large MMO up close? it is an insane thing to manage, it is their largest YOY cost managing our data. You make a character in 2004, they have to save it forever. That data storage has yearly costs, that character does not. If you quit, you want it to be there when you come back in 10 years. They have to factor in a lot when deciding how much data they let us store. It is the one thing Blizzard does in an exceptionally fair and overly inexpensive way. I don’t understand how they manage it as is, it is the hardest thing they have to do and it is the one thing they do fairly.

oh no im not disagreeing lol. getting 1 of every class on every race was my goal which i achieved years and years ago  what i did was use raf to get all the rewards and just took advantage of the massive experience and leveled everything in the meantime via 6 accounts.

edit: i believe i have some old threads like 7-8+ years ago about increasing the limit. got no headway so i just made more accounts.

Like i said i enjoy the aesthetics of creating a character and making it look cool. Why should i be stopped from doing that cause of a arbitrary limited created when this game started?

Character data is tiny.

You’re forgetting wowtokens and the cashshop. Those are probably 60% or more of the game’s income.

yes and you know if i have to be perfectly honest some of the most fun i personally have in this game is leveling new characters. i dont know why maybe its that constant instant gratification of a steady flow of upgrades and progression. there is just something about it thats fun. even if we did it a thousand times over. i like it.

Not simping, I just know how it be. 90% of my posts are bashing Activision lol

But this, this is the one thing they are doing in a confusingly fair way. You not understanding the challenges of maintaining such a huge pile of data perpetually and perfectly is nothing to do with the reality of why it be the way it do.

More so, I would hope you don’t get your hopes up about getting more character slots. If anything they’ll need to find a way to get themselve out of how much they’ve given out at such a low cost. The maintenance costs go up and the character file sizes go up, and the character count go up, but the price not goin up.

How do you have that many characters? What do you use them for?

I like having many multiple characters of the same class so if I feel like farming raids for mogs, I can do so as much as I want without having to wait until next week.

That and i love to level, love to play the auction house, love having many different character/class/race combinations to suit whatever mood or playstyle I’m in at the time.

WoW has been out for almost 18 years, fifty characters in that timeframe isn’t really THAT many.

It isn’t a need, video games aren’t a necessity, it’s a want. I want more because I enjoy playing a lot of characters and I do play all fifty of mine. It lessens restrictions, gives me more leeway on activities where I’m not confined by weekly lock-outs.

Sometimes less is more, but as an avid collector, AH player, more is more for me.

personally, i would like them to increase the cap by like 10 slots.
they could put each extra slot on the cash shop for 30 usd each.

people who really want it will buy it. people who dont need it wont have to worry.

10 extra character slots would net bliz 300 doll hairs per account that does it. seems like a win win. :money_mouth_face:

Dude, why are you comparing 1s and 0s of data in the KBs on a hard drive to warehousing physical goods?

Data storage is cheap, the reason they won’t up the limit is more about the data base tables in the games engine. It was written with 50, to change that, and all the links to it, is not worth rewriting the backbone of the game.

And like I said, nearly every server is connected to at least one other, with a 50 limit on each. I could have 100 on shu/trigg. This isn’t a problem the majority of the players need a fix for, use the workaround.

I think there are bigger issues that need increasing like bag space, bank bag slots and quest limit.

There’s always other problems. This company scuffed two expansions of entire content patches now. I’m tired of excuses. I want results.
