That’s a lovely story, thank you for sharing. Years from now he will probably remember fighting the dragon with dad and the group and defeating it and being happy. There are worst things to remember than a special, fun time like that.
Sadly, this seems to increasingly be WoW’s target audience. It was fun while it lasted.
If he was in LFR with me i wouldn’t know since I mostly there to framnfoe flight stone but grats I also don’t check other dps
This is so wholesome, I love it. Normally I only ever hear about players letting their kids gather herbs or minerals for them. Kid is going to love the follower dungeons.
That’s cool . High five your kid for me!
Thanks for sharing.
This just reinforces the idea that WoW is a game for old people and/or parents lol.
And parents are basically ‘cool’ repellant, lmao. Always have been.
Kids won’t ever play what their parents are playing, they want their own ecosystem.
FortNite is popular because there’s like no parents playing it, etc.
LFR being doable by a 5-year-old also sounds about right. I’ve hung up my raiding hat ever since they added LFR, raids just aren’t cool if anyone can do 'em.
/raises hand
I’m cool being an NPC for your son!
Loved the story.
He absolutely wasn’t the worst player in there either. Well done!
I fully expected this to be a dump on LFR. Happy to read what happened, and good luck to you and your little future (full time!) raider
Next time someone is new to the raid and asks for ELI5, remember this thread.
As some who frequents LFR, I was already under the impression that many people in there were under the age of 7.
Your 5 year old is already a better player than most adults I see playing this game.
I had two accounts so i could play with daughters.
My 5 year old just wandered around silvermoon mainly, to choose which house was hers, and pick dresses to wear etc.
My 8 year old played with me, my brother and his daughter, also 8. (4 accounts).
If we did do dungeons, they were at a bit below level.
One time i noticed that daughter and her cousin were in a classic raid, but we were in BC, so not current. A small group was helping them through it. I always looked at their chat and no one ever said anything creepy. These were RP realms, so that may have helped.
Sometimes someone would send them some white gear or something.
They enjoyed it, and actually played well enough to not stand out. Sometimes their chat could appear at their age, so i was careful.
My daughter kept wanting to play, so my wife started getting angry about it, even though her grades were usually top in her classes, so that didn’t seem to be an issue. But at some point during Wrath she stopped.
Haven’t seen one of these threads in awhile.
There’s a few that even had videos posted to youtube.
Impressive children that for sure.
Most 5 year olds are just starting elementary/kindergarten school and don’t have the finer motor control to write even with large utensils like crayons. They certainly don’t have the logic and reading skills to know what buttons do what and why in WoW and how to avoid the bad pools and other raid mechanics.
The advanced skills they are showing at this age can’t be overstated. They are well and truly years ahead of their peers.
I hope this gift wasn’t wasted and they were allowed to progress at their own speed instead of waiting for everyone else to “catch up”.
Would be a shame to hear they were left in public school to make macaroni art and finger paintings.
You do know ESRB ratings aren’t strict limiters right? It’s for Teens and up without adult supervision. The OP is supervising their child as they should, which makes it perfectly fine and allowed. That’s the whole point of a rating. They are supervising their child playing a teen game before they are a teen.
I’m imagining that little Final Fantasy victory jingle that DBM plays after the boss goes down added to kiddo’s excitement at winning. Heck I’m 48 and it makes me smile
This story’s so cool. I needed this today.
You should let your son make his own Battle Net account and make it a free trial, that way when he is old enough to fully grasp the game he has something to work with. That and, kids love doing the MOP starting zone.
Already in the top 20% of players
That is amazing. Thank you for sharing that. You should let him start his own character. See what he picks class, race etc.
Very cute cant wait to hear his adventures in s4 lfr killing a lightning dragon
