In no particular order:
1. Removing PvP Vendors.
Legion and BFA’s PvP gearing systems were absolute trash. And then when they finally do bring vendors back, they make it a brutal grind gated behind renown. I don’t understand why they can’t go back to the WoD system for how PvP gear worked.
2. Removing PvP Servers
Admittedly I do like War Mode and the content it brings. But the difference between PvP servers and War Mode is that you couldn’t turn PvP off on a PvP server. That made it a big decision when you decided what server to play on. With war mode, you can just turn it on and off if you feel like it. And also I can’t stand the people who say “I rolled on a PvP server to play with friends or this other reason e.t.c. I shouldn’t have to deal with the consequences” no sorry, you rolled on a PvP server, you deal with what it entails. If you dislike it, you are more than welcome to transfer or reroll. Other people’s fun shouldn’t be ruined because you made a decision that you regret.
3. Making Warglaives Of Azzinoth a DH only transmog
This one here makes my blood boil, as do the people who defend this decision and I don’t even use these weapons at all. The WoA are swords, therefore the various sword users who obtained these weapons before DH’s became a playable class should above all else be able to transmog them. I understand that they gave DH’s a way to obtain these as a transmog but doing that method grants them a modified sheath appearance plus the actual warglaive animations. If DH’s wanted to have these weapons use sword animations like the original items, they wouldn’t be able to.
4. Horde losing characters left, right, and center.
Garrosh was displaying growth in leadership in Cataclysm (particularly with the Stonetalon Mountains questline.) It was then forgotten about in MoP when he does to Theramore what he originally threw an orc general off a cliff for. According to an interview, Garrosh becoming a villain was due to a miscommunication between Alex Afrasiabi and the writing team.
Vol’jin - gets the warchief title, keeps it for 1 expansion while hardly playing a role and then dies to a felguard. Mind you, prior to him becoming the warchief, this character had tons of buildup.
Saurfang - Like Vol’jin, this character was well-developed. He literally got 4 cinematics. And what happened to him in the end? Yes, that’s right he was killed. The Horde’s last viable candidate for warchief was built up and then subsequently killed off.
I could go on, but those are a few grand examples that came to mind.
5. Warlords Of Draenor
I don’t think I need to explain where this expansion went wrong (lol). But even when it was first announced I was like “really?”. We’re basically just taking one giant Warcraft 2 nostalgia trip? We’re fighting old villains whose stories had already ended in the RTS games? And we’re just going back to a place we’ve already been to but this time it’s in an alternate reality set 35 years in the past?
I will say though that some of the things this expansion got right were the leveling experience and the way it handled PvP gear. And also the world itself was beautiful looking.
