45 Year old+ gamers

46 here. Been playing since just before Wrath came out. Have what feels like a billion alts spread out over many servers to find the perfect guild. Unfortunately that doesn’t exist. I transferred servers to join one that was for 35+. Unfortunately even though they have some of the same ideals (was looking for a guild without the “omg i smoked so much pot” conversations) still ended up butting heads with the gm on guild activities. I don’t have kids to play with but I play with my bf and friends I’ve met online.

I have played since just before launch. The character I think of as my main (always) is this adorable gnome affliction warlock. However, due to raid need, I also play a gnome healing monk! I am also the leader of the all gnome guild on WRA, Gnomeregan Forever. No kids, so do not game with them. However, my mother plays too, and she is also a gnome affliction warlock and gnome beastmaster hunter.

Gosh, I was feeling like the old one here but see there are a few us. I’m 63 and started playing after my divorce. My son said I’d like it as I was big into Everquest and I really do love it. He plays as well, but we don’t play together but do have discussions about it.

I started out with druid but after they made so many changes with the class I just don’t like it anymore. I switched to disc priest and of course more changes to make me not like it. Then I got into a ele shaman, which I love but don’t play at the moment because I wanted to try some other characters after not playing much since Pandaria came out.

So at the moment I’m alternating between an assassin rogue, hunter, monk and demon hunter. I really can’t decide what to stick with, maybe I’ll keep all of them!

Anyway, glad to see there are some “mature” folks here and it’s been nice seeing this thread! Love it!

Want to add that I DON’T feel 63 at all!!! (son is 35)

Forgot to add that I have played for going on 14 years. I am a TBC baby!

Definitely the other side of 45, and have multiples of most classes/both factions.
Favorite by far BM hunter for solo and most played by far.

But I do level all classes just to experience them and have tried most spec’s.

One of my SL goals is to level thru the different xpacs with one of each healers and then xp lock them in their 40s just for lower level dungeon/xpac/pvp fun.

Decade past what you consider Old

The gaming group I was with (going back to the old MS Beta/Alpha days) swapped over from Asheron’s Call to WOW beta in early 2004? Played a hunter since release, once DK’s were added that has been my main char.

My son’s played in the early years. Perhaps more than you were looking for but my youngest was diagnosised with cancer at 2.5 years old. He spent most of the next 3 years in and out of Oncology/ICU/BMT units. WOW became a means for him and his 4 year old brother to still “play together” from afar. Lap top and headsets, he was good to go.

Its amazing how two little ones that couldn’t read, would still sort out quests, what to do in dungeons by trail and error on their own. Their greatest joy was PVP…made for some very interesting looks, and comments, from nursing/child life staff when they would walk into a room to hear a 3 year old telling someone to “Kill the Red Guy”! Remember most at that time had no idea about voice communitcation programs.

That was a lot of year ago, 10 to be exact. My oldest still plays his younger brothers char/account from time to time.

I got my start with D&D back in the olden days too. I remember my first D&D basic set with the chits you cut out and pulled from a cup. Ah, the good old days.

65 yrs old, I play alone, family and friends aren’t into gamming. I also solo play for the most part, but that is partly due to dedicated time issues.

I have 50 characters, I play all of them off and on. I switch mains to whatever I’m having the most fun on at that time. lol Though I do have my favorites.

My base main is a Dwarf Enh Shaman. However right now I’m having more fun on my NElf Hunters (BM and Surv.) Which I’m ending up maining at this time. As well as a NElf Guardian Druid for those tough spots, or to take down something fairly strong.

My Human Ret Pally is also a ton of fun.

I’ll get to my Shaman in due time… lol Also have an Ele Shaman that is fun.

I’ve played WoW since Cata.

For now, those are what I’m focusing on. I’ll get around to my Rogue’s, Locks, etc. eventually. I’m not really into “end content,” my thing is leveling up/doing quests and just having non-pressure/stress fun. So no timed anything, which usually includes grouping since most want to go go go. lol

Though I have a full time job, a mom to care for, lots of pets and tons of interruptions thus no dungeons or raids unless I can solo them and AFK when needed without messing up others.

Monk Healer is my main (tank offspec), Druid Healer will be my 2nd. Warlock dps for my 3rd eventually… 4th and beyond I haven’t settled on…

ps: been playing since Vanilla (2005). 3 kids. all 13+. Oldest plays casually (since about Wrath), 2nd just started playing. 3rd hasn’t shown any interest yet… We’ve all played Diablo 3 co-op on the xbox though. That was a blast.

Husband and I, 47 here. Our 12 year old plays sometimes with us, but Fortnite is his thing, of course. Other kid is only 9, and not much in to gaming. It’s our evening/weekend entertainment after the kids go to bed or are doing their own thing. Raids with guild and mythic + are the main things we do. I started in Vanilla, he joined around BC. With kids, we don’t have time to sink in to other games, so this is it for now. Our mains are (me) resto sham and (him) prot warrior. So we get to yell at each other a lot (all in fun of course) during raids and mythics. We will end up leveling a ton of alts eventually, but we don’t have too many “date nights”, so as silly as it may sound, this is a very inexpensive way that we spend some fun time together. Most of the rest of our spare time is spent at all the kid activities (at least pre and post COVID)!

I’ve been playing off and on since BC. Mostly rogues, but I mained a DK and Druid for a while in WoTD and Cata.

Now my 10 & 12 year old sons are starting to level some toons…on a game that I’ve played since before their birth. Crazy.

Sorry, gotta derail the thread for a moment…

Since the day I created my hunter I have tried to get the name Aviendha, but to no avail. I did, however, get a few other “choice” names, all on Trollbane:

Cadsuane - Alliance Mage
Nynaeve - VE Priest
Galad - Dranei Pali
Mat - Human Rogue
Mesanna - Undead Warlock

and the best…

Lanfear - BE Warlock

I play all the classes off and on since 2004. My favorite specs seem to have either mobility, instant casting spells, or both

  1. Holy Priest
  2. Affliction Warlock
  3. Beast Mastery Hunter
  4. Fire Mage
  5. Resto Shaman

Marksmanship Hunter is ok
Demonology Warlock is ok

These classes also allow for a lot of flexibility in groups that have tanks who are really terrible

For melee DPS, Assassination Rogue seems to be the most interesting for me right now

For tanking, Guardian Druid can just gear up and go. There is very little learning curve with that pick. Most of the abilities are intuitive and make sense for the average person

Do they hate it due to all the time you have given it?

50! 16 years starting just when Burning Crusade launched. One daughter, when she was younger she liked to fly around on the mounts and make my chars dance. She is now older and does game, but not WoW. I have several friends also similar age who’ve played just as long. It’s certainly more (and has been) a “hobby” then a game. I’ve taken breaks at times - basically sat out Warlords - but I’ll likely sub as long as its available. Nice to see a thread/topic that has some positivity and relatable comments
