I understand your concern but Blizzard is mostly taking direct influence from Classics popularity and population for server types.
Grobbulus RP PVP Realm currently has about 7 times the player base from Bloodsail RP PvE, simply having an RP PvP realm just has a greater popularity/population for longevity.
I personally think less realms the better, we don’t need to stretch the player base out to thinly across multiple realms, but we also need to remember PvP in Classic is going to be on “contested” areas, generally the leveling experience and Phase 1 especially there won’t be much until Ashenvale.
To be fair I’m actually impressed Grobbulus is in the top 5 classic realm population, very balanced in terms of Horde vs Alliance, only 3% difference and is an RP realm which alone makes it a niche server type.
While Bloodsail is 34th, heavily Alliance Favoured.

“Confirmed”
Nothing was confirmed.
is 2019 so long ago that no one remembers the server count doubling in the first couple days?

Well didn’t they come out in the Q&A for SoD, about when Hardcore was released they mentioned servers can now hold a huge more amount of players due to the new layer system. Compared to the servers they have now (Classic).
They also said they have the ability to immediately fire up more servers as needed.
Which I think is amazing, if these 4 servers that are able to hold insanely larger population, get to the point that Blizzard needs to add more servers just shows how popular SoD is.
But I think they’ll hold off on new servers right away until the “honeymoon” period ends. But I think it’s great news.

It says all 4 are RP-PVP now.
I wouldn’t take the last too serious yet.

I’m going PvP East because I’m on the east coast. My life isn’t dictated by people on Twitch
They also didn’t have layering in 2019 launch. And the server capacity was much lower. Pretty sure they stated they recoded the game to allow for more people, and part of that is layering.
Personally I don’t see the point in 2 PvP servers, 1 PvP, and 1 Rp PvP is plenty.
Thank god, easy dodge for the rest of us.
They have VASTLY larger server capacity than they did in 2019. What ppl complained about in TBC and WOTLK with server limits is what they fixed. They do infact have the technology. They can now shard what would have been 10 servers all into one with one name and tie them together.
HC was a MASSIVE release they did with 2 servers. Thats incredible. SoD will be plenty fine with 4, if you are expecting more servers you are lost.
They absolutely will not need to create more servers, they can put 130K on a single “server” since its really sharded with the same name.
They sure do, classic also had over 30 servers. My comment was just pointing out that more servers can be spun up if needed and that the 4 servers wowhead posted is meaningless.
Even especially so now that if you log in all 4 are listed as rp-pvp.
And it was a massive mistake to have 30 servers for Classic.
They learned a lot from their past mistakes. SoM made a huge mistake doing 2 PVP servers, which the smaller one collapsed in a month.
Im not sold on there being 2 PVP servers, I feel like one will be bumping and the other will die out, but we will see.
bro I am not debating how many servers there should be. Just that wowhead showing those 4 servers doesn’t mean anything.
Horde go west coast pvp. Ally go east coast. Balance

right that would mean ALL 4 realms are PvP…
Based.
Streamers going East Coast, everyone else go West.
Can’t speak for everyone else, but I’ll be west coast horde pvp. Despite being central time, west coast realms always seem to work better for me raid schedule wise.
Also sincerely doubt we’re getting 4x rp-pvp servers… are there really 50k+ rp PvPers?
Ha, no definitely not. 1 is beyond more than enough for them.
Im the other way though, for me i like to play ahead in time. I like raiding 5pm to 8PM, so PST playing EST. easier for my schedule.

PvE won’t be dead lol. But agreed 1 pve server is all thats necessary. PvP servers are going to be limited so it makes sense why there is more.
