In the early days of WoW, maintenance every Tuesday was at least 8 hours. Every week, no exceptions.
Everyone gettin’ all excited for prepatch, don’t. It will be announced at least 2 weeks in advance. They’ll say it’s an 8 hour maintenance, servers may be stable enough so everyone can start playing Thursday with some lucky ducks having a mod-free Wednesday session.
Ill never forget that week wow went offline for almost a week.

Back in my day, we had no internet. It was all downtime, 24/7 baby!
Maintenance almost never lasts nearly as long as they claim it will.
Only retail is 4 hours, classic is the normal 1 hour.
No prepatch. We will get a 2 week warning for pvp season, mythic season, visions, AOTC, etc to get finished up before they drop their new album of the year.

4 to 5 hours isn’t all that bad considering I remember when it used to be 8 hours. Ah, Cata downtime.
Considering Tuesday maintenance used to be a minimum of 12 hours every week in the early years of the game, skyrocketing up to 18+ hours at times, I think four hours is fairly modest.
They could be prepping for it across multiple weeks.
I doubt its today. They would have given a heads up.
I’m assuming pre-patch and SL launch day would have a 6 to 8 hours maintenance.
I’d assume it’s just a prep for the prepatch as well as a server merge.
This. They usually do the longer maintenances BEFORE a big release… because they’ve learned from past fiascos.
I remember when notification for vanilla maintenance was a count down in your chat window.
At least now Blizzard gives you 2 days notice.

back in my day growing up 90s, we didnt have these flashy little cellphones. Social Media consisted of notes; folding and playing football with them.

They would at least give two weeks notice. The 29th is when it’s gonna be.
