The game is to each person what they want it to be, there is no one “right” way to play nor is there a unified “Spirit” the game has. The game is to you what you want it to be and each player is free to play as they see fit within the confines of the rules.

No. There is such thing as design intent, there is such thing as trying to push players towards certain actions, and there IS a “spirit of the game”.

Blizzard themselves have said, for example, that cross-faction collusion is AGAINST THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME. And if player behavior hurts that spirit it isn’t wrong to try to rein those players in.
