I’m not comfortable playing other specs than the one I’ve been playing for 20 years… I don’t remember how it worked when Legion was live, but, do you have to be in the new spec to do the 2nd artifact quest?
No. You will be automatically switched into the spec for the quest when you accept it, but you can just change back to the one you are comfortable with and do the entire quest chain and obtain the other artifact.

Switch back i did all mine as Tank the IP is shared after you unlock as well

This is the perfect answer. I know I did all 3 Paladin weapons in Prot, and 3/4 Druid weapons in Balance. Sadly, the Healing encounter required specific abilities and a bit more power when it came to healing.

You MIGHT need to use certain spec abilities to progress though. Sometimes it can be brute-forced, like I did the balance druid one without Solar Beam, just running through a damage field. Healer artifacts could have something that needs friendly dispels.
