In WoW Forever, we’ve been working on the restricted name list, which is a list the game uses to check for non-profane names that we wish to restrict, such as major Warcraft lore characters or names that are blocked for technical reasons.
Today we’ve determined that we have a bug in the process that caused the game to be overly restrictive with some names. For example, it has been incorrectly restricting names containing “c-o-n”.
With the next realm restarts in each region, we’re going to implement the fix. Afterward, if you previously received a message that said “That name is restricted” for a name that you think should have been allowed, please feel free to try again.
I consider the preorder false advertising. What was the point of preordering if I couldn’t even reserve the name I’ve been using for years before some fanboy grabbed it?
I even missed a real-life appointment trying to secure my name, and I still didn’t get it. Paying in advance and rearranging my day just to lose out anyway is ridiculous.
You can take my money in advance, but I can’t secure my name in advance? Apparently I was early enough to pay, but not early enough to get my name.
What exactly did preordering accomplish here besides letting you hold onto my money sooner?
“Names aren’t guaranteed” doesn’t address what I’m saying. I’m criticizing the process, not asking for a guarantee.
I was ready and waiting an hour before reservations opened, but couldn’t get in. You’ve acknowledged that you also had login issues and failed character creation. If some paying customers can reserve names while others are blocked by technical failures, quoting “first come, first served” doesn’t make that process fair.
I paid for early access to name reservations. It’s reasonable to expect that feature to work when it opens, especially when the entire benefit depends on timing. Getting access later doesn’t undo losing that opportunity.
There’s a difference between “someone got there before you” and “you were there, but our system wouldn’t let you participate.” That disclaimer doesn’t erase the difference.

It is no different than ordering a steak (which would be the preorder name reserve service) and then getting nothing (name reservation service was bugged out) and still being forced to pay the restaurant (blizzard)
When you buy goods or services, you have a right to be upset when you get something other than what was promised.
