Entering or exiting cities. Riding on boats. Joining groups. Changing zones. You name it, it is hard to take the world serious when friends and familiar faces are yanked away to a different layer. I don’t like. Why does Classic have a better system than Forever?

Yeah, it’s weird. I don’t like it either. Blizzard seems fine with it. Best I can hope for is after population decline (which is inevitable) that things stabilize with a healthy population on 1-2 layers so layering is minimal.

It’s always at it’s worst during peak. When the pop drops off it should be better. Still I agree with your point, I just don’t have any ideas on how to fix this. I think ultimately we’d all prefer a stable long term server population.

They are aware of the issues there’s been many threads posted . They are working on it they said.
It’s like anything peole just constantly telling you they’re an issue g fg cent fix it, at some point you are like “yes I know we’re working on it”

if no layering, with no realms, you’d have 10,000 people fighting you for every mob, every resource. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.

layering is fine it’s the sharding (i.e. zone-specific layering) that is terrible. classic era has layers but the layers are world-wide. and that helps a lot.

It’s a necessary evil but it needs to feel as transparent as possible, even if it creates under/overpopulated layers and zones. As soon as you visibly see someone phase in or out of existence or a massive pop up appears telling you “the world around you will refresh” the magic disappears completely.
And in 7-layer dip

Easy to say when you pick the right sever that dosnt die. and enjoy lagging at every second especially on launch. Sever que for hours on end sounds like a whole lot of no fun. just cause you want over population on a single sever that cant handle it

layering and sharding are the same concept on different scales
the single servers are the worst idea in blizz history this breaks every rule of an mmo beacause devs dont feel like doing the 9-5 job which include managing server issues. instead they tossed everyone on a single server and said there now we dont have to work on servers pop anymore
you only care if your not stuck on a sever that dies. A single sever that allows alot more people to play is much better.
