In front of hundreds of thousands of viewers between twitch and youtube, a leveling addon that has features locked behind a 25-30 dollar paywall is being heavily promoted.
This is something so egregiously against the TOS that even China has cracked down on it heavily in their region and closed people’s accounts for even entertaining them yet here in NA and on EU such an addon is being promoted during a Blizzard promoted and sanctioned tournament.
it’s not nonsense. Paid addon give kickbacks but less addon sales if people aren’t questing, so non questing pathways to level get a huge nerf = more revenue from kickbacks. Pretty simple really.
my understanding is the addon goes into much much further details, optimal leveling paths and which quests to accept, which to turn in and in what order, which quests to skip…it even goes so far as to tell you when to just die and spirit rez becuase it saves large amounts of time turning in quests etc etc. It’s the most optimized pathway to leveling a person can find and we all know how much wow players like to min/max.
Summed up. He got DQ by tipsout by going out of dueling bounds against savix. He started talking about RMT and dark money being poured into the tournament and how tips is a scum bag and other stuff.
To my understanding the addon itself is an optimized leveling path that tells you which quests to grab and which to skip. The addon itself is free.
People can then write guides to be used in the addon. Those guides are pay to access.
It’s sparked debate on the topic because addons cannot sell a premium. But you can write and sell leveling guides. And Blizzard ruled it counts as the later.
Stuff like Rested XP and Zygor do have optimized paths. That’s what your paying for but does it matter if you get to 60 a few hours faster? If that’s important you pay the cost. If not you use the in game tools.
It’s like the old Brady Guides we used to buy at Gamestop. That’s how they get around the TOS. The addon is actually free but you’re paying for the data. It’s a bit sketch but also within the rules.
