On the Camping of Lowbies

I disagree fundamentally with the idea that killing a lowbie is just “PvP happening on a PvP server,” in the same sense that if a god opened up the clouds and blasted me with a beam of plasma moonbeam style, and I melted right there on the spot, you wouldn’t say that I just fought that god and lost.

I agree that it is hard to draw and enforce a line without making people worried about just being in the world and interacting with other people, or making arbitrary, unintuitive limitations such as just not being able to right click someone because they’re a lowbie.

What I propose is this:

  1. If you kill a player that is gray level to you, you are marked with a debuff “Weight of Dishonor,” with exceptions I will note later.
  2. Any player with Weight of Dishonor (WoD) is eligible to be killed, regardless of level difference, without any penalty. In addition, killing someone with WoD who is yellow level or higher grants you a buff “Avenger’s Boon: 30% increased Crit chance, 10% increased damage against any opposite faction player with Weight of Dishonor”. The buff refreshes on kills that would normally give it.
  3. Any player in a contested region that is too high level for them, or in an enemy controlled region, will be marked with a debuff “Unbelonging: you get the sense you shouldn’t be here.” Players with Unbelonging are always eligible to be killed, regardless of level difference.
  4. Attacking someone red level to you unprovoked will mark you as Unbelonging. Basically if you pick the fight as a lowbie, anyone nearby can crush you with impunity.

This system doesn’t arbitrarily impose limitations, you can kill whoever you wish. But it does make it so killing a lowbie in a place they are supposed to be isn’t just free, you may pay a cost. It encourages other players to come help because of the buff, and it doesn’t allow low levels to wander into places they don’t belong with impunity.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

It is what it is. Crying about it on the forums won’t help.

Edit: Personally I have better things to do than camp lowbies but if I get ganked you better believe I’ll be killing lowbies left and right until my mood improves. Usually just takes about 30 minutes or so.

They will help me clean my floor… they work better than fabuloso!!!

I think they should simply give you a dishonorable kill/negative honor for killing someone 10 levels lower than you.

Yes we know you do. Youve made threads about it for the past 3 days lmao

I haven’t made a thread about this.

You’re confusing me with someone else.

Ahhh but am i???

Or just report griefers and ban them?

It was explicitly stated it wouldn’t be considered griefing

Just mass report them for something else then, and they will probably be banned anyway lol

Fabuloso mention on wow forums. Never thought I’d see that lol

No one cares if you agree or not, camping lowbies is allowed.

You don’t get a vote.

The system I have proposed still allows killing lowbies.

Found the guy who has to camp lowbies to cover his real life inadequacies… :joy:

Stick around a while. It’s not even surprising after 22 years. Funny tho!

I get ganked all the time and I don’t cry about it. Nothing needs to be changed. And YES, getting ganked IS part of the PVP server experience. If I am leveling a character and you guys convince Blizzard to put some lame system into effect to prevent ganking then I’m gonna be pissed because you’ll be taking all the thrill and excitement out of my leveling experience.

No, I don’t like getting ganked, but I do enjoy trying to prevent it and having to be extra careful sneaking around to avoid it. You don’t just have to be the high level to have fun. Being the low level and feel like you are fighting to survive is fun too, and gets your adrenaline pumping. Please stop trying to come up with ways to ruin that and just not play on a PVP server if you want to prevent low-level ganking. You’re trying to ruin it for all the people who have thicker skin and aren’t snowflakes.

Has anyone ever played the Dragon Ball game called “The Breakers” where you play as normal human beings trying to avoid the big baddies like Freiza, Cell, etc? It’s a lot of fun knowing you have to sneak around and be extra careful to avoid them while trying to finish objectives. Well, that is pretty much the same scenario. Just let PVP servers be what they are and stop trying to change them to be more friendly. It completely goes against the point of a PVP server.

just roll horde

all psycopaths go horde thats why wpvp camping is a thing

I’m genuinely curious how it’s gonna be on the pvp ruleset…

Since it’s one megaserver with layers… ummmm…

“Yo guild… a gank squad is after me… invite quick for a layer swap”

“WTF, I was about to gank that gnome and they swapped layers!”

Sounds appealing… speaking as someone who has seen the massive layer swapping in beta.

PvE servers are that way →

You can’t layer swap in combat, they fixed it this week.
